Lync Server 2013 - Active Directory Server is not available. Try again later.

Hello Peeps,

Another day in the life of a Lync admin.

Another unusual issue.

After an upgrade to my Hypervisor, I am having issues between the Lync and Ad.

Errors :

Exception: Microsoft.Rtc.Collaboration.ProvisioningFailureException:Cannot read contacts from Active Directory: Active Directory server "SBS2011CIN.cin.local" is not available. Try again later.

ANd also when I go to the deployment wizard, It tells me that It cannot find the domain controller. All my lync servers work. However at times I cant do anything in the Lync Server control panel or cant login to it due to the issue.

I can ping all my servers from the FE server with no Issues.

To resolve this I am thinking of removing the server from the domain and reseating it. I don't know what will break if I do this. Any suggestions ?

Regards

Hi robinhood_montreal,

I had the similar problem when I deployed SFB in lab, rebooting the both AD and Lync Servers fixed this issue.

You may try it.

Best regards,

Eric

Hi Eric,Anthony

I have retried restarting the service but that did not work. I will try to restart the Lync Server and AD - Part of SBS

this evening and hopefully it resolves the Issue.

Hi Guys,

I finally remembered to reboot the server last night. I performed the reboot twice however the issue still lingered As some of the services refused to start . I then went to deployment services and saw that the Active Directory portion was not checked ( green) . When I proceeded to click on install services etc It said "partial" which was weird having had the server up for about 18 months now.

After a few minutes - I checked the exchange UM event viewer on the server and discovered that It too was given an error that It could not find any domain controllers in "cin.local"

I decided then and there since I could not even log into the Lync Control Panel to unseat the Lync Server and try and add it back to the domain. I unseated it quite easily but adding it back wasn't, as it claims that the domain controller was no where to be found. I called the IT guy and after 20mins, claims It was done ( what he did - he is a MacGyver kind of dude) anyway glad he was awake at midnight. I rebooted the servers 2ce and up to now, about 12 hours later have yet to get any of the related Issues regarding AD. I will keep you guys posted on Monday before closing this forum thread.
