Lync Server 2010, Caller ID & user association

We have Lync Server 2010 and Cisco UCM 8.6. We use Cisco for our voice and is connected through SIP to Lync.

When someone calls in to a Lync meeting, the caller ID details appear to be getting passed from Cisco UCM. Regardless whether a caller is calling in to a Lync meeting from an internal Cisco phone or from the outside through the PSTN, the call details always come from CUCM.

What we are trying to figure out is whether this is how it is supposed to work, and whether there are any alternative ways to identify callers. More specifically, is there a way that Lync can look at the incoming caller ID details, compare the number to Active Directory and identify them based off that association? So if I have my cell number added in to Active Directory and CUCM passes my cell phone details to Lync in the caller ID field, can Lync immediately know that it is me calling in and associate me to my AD account? Currently if I connect to a Lync meeting URL, I show up in the Presenter list. Then if I choose "Don't Join Audio" and dial in from my Cisco phone on my desk, it shows another entry with me as an attendee.

I am having a hard time finding any official documentation describing how Lync works in the above scenario. If anyone has any, please send a link to it.

Thank you.

Sounds like CUCM has the SIP trunk to the telco so call calls are going to go through it. Thats fine, it just sounds like you need to do some normalisation of numbers in CUCM or Lync.

The "CALLERS" number (your deskphone) coming from CUCM would need to be normalised to an E164 number that matches the number in AD or the Lync telURI. If this is the case then it should work.

In terms of conferencing if you dial in from an unknown number you can authenticate using your conference PIN.
