Lync Online and Polycom CX600

Hi,

I got a Polycom CX600 to use with Lync Online. Lync Basic is started and logged-in on the computer, using the XXX@YYY.onmicrosoft.com account (XXX = account name, YYY = domain name). However, when connecting the phone to the computer and re-entering the credentials in the popup box , I get an error message on the phone saying "Connection error [...] Check your connection address, domain\username and password then try again. Check that domain @YYY.onmicrosoft.com has been " (the error message on the phone is cut, the up and down arrows don't allow to go lower..).

I tried 2 sign-in credentials:

1) Sign-in address: XXX@YYY.onmicrosoft.com ; User name= XXX@YYY.onmicrosoft.com

2) Sign-in address: XXX@YYY.onmicrosoft.com ; User name= YYY.onmicrosoft.com\XXX

but neither method works.

Any help is appreciated. I was counting on Lync to cut some costs in my very small company, I hope I did not made a mistake when buying that phone!

A.

PS: Firmware version is 4.0.7577.4100. If it needs to be updated, is there any option in Lync Online to push that update, given that I do NOT have a dedicated computer to use as a server for that?

Yeah, that firmware is old and very well may be an issue, but I can't think of a way to get it updated without an on-premises Lync server.  You may have to deploy one just to get that up to date.

Short of that, what are you trying to accomplish?  Why not use a pure USB phone like the CX300?

Hi,

Agree with Anthony Caragol.

From your description above, it could be the issue of the old firmware. However, For Lync Online, Polycom CX600 could only update after connecting to the Lync online.

So you need a Lync Server on-premises environment to update it as Anthony Caragol said above.

Eason

1) Deploying a full server is much too costly, and time consuming... Additionally in my small structure (independent consultants in several countries with home offices), it may require competences we do not have (and were trying to avoid having to hire IT staff / contractors by using MS online products). I really wish MS could at least provide some sort of downloadable virtual machine image that virtualizes a pre-configured Lync server with a single function of pushing these updates to the phones!!

2) The CX300 seems to be discontinued. The Plantronics P540M is still available in stores so it may be the solution if everything else fails. The purpose was to have an internal communication system that could work, once configured, when the computers are off. I had experience with the CX300 and the biggest advantage and disadvantage is that it relies only on USB, so it does not need internal configuration but it cannot work without the computer, which is a problem when a user has trouble logging in...

Hello,

you can try to download and run the Lync 2013 Test Drive VHD's for you on premise upgrade environment. It does not come preloaded with any Lync Phone Edition .CAB (firmware) files, but its fairly easy to upload such into the test drive infrastructure:

Test Drive 2013: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40266

Check out Lync Downloads & Updates here for latestest Phone Edition .CAB files:

PLEASE NOTE: Are you planning to use the CX600 on Lync Online, cause you expect you can make PSTN/GSM etc. phone calls? If thats the case: I strongly recommend to request Partner Advisory Hours from Microsoft, to get briefed with latest information regarding that topic: https://mspartner.microsoft.com

Thanks and greetings from Berlin,
