Lync Multi-tenant DNS records

Hi there,

I have a question regarding the DNS records required for a lync tenant hoted on a Multi-tenant pack for hosters deployment.

On page 35 of the deployment guide the NDS records are mentioned as follows:

SRV

_sip._tls.<TenantSIPDomain>

access.<TenantSIPdomain>

5061

Used for automatic configuration of Lync Server clients   and meeting attendant

SRV

_sipfederationtls._tls.<TenantSIPDomain>

access.<TenantSIPdomain>

5061

Used for federation with other Lync Server deployments

I think this should be  the follopwing :

SRV

_sip._tls.<TenantSIPDomain>

<FQDN for DIR Pool>

5061

Used for automatic configuration of Lync Server clients   and meeting attendant

SRV

_sipfederationtls._tcp.<TenantSIPDomain>

Access component of Edge Pool

5061

Used for federation with other Lync Server deployments

i didn't try federating with an enterptise deployment and i can't ifnd any guidance regarding this but i think that there is a typo in the  SRV record required for federation, did anyone try this ?

I agree with you. Check the DNS record for access.<TenantSIPdomain>, I found this sentence Create one for each Director.

A

access.<TenantSIPdomain>

IP address of Edge Server

NA

Create one for each Director

And in the page 24, I found this sentence you must configure the DNS records for the initial test SIP domain. Configure the SRV record to point to the Director pool, not the Edge Server pool.

Hi Lisa,

Thank you for your reply. What about the value of the SRV record for federation should it be _sipfederationtls._tls.<TenantSIPDomain>  or _sipfederationtls._tcp.<TenantSIPDomain> ?

Hey,

It should be _sipfederationtls._TCP.<TenantSIPDomain>

You can resolve both records to the DNS name of your service rather than the tenants SIP domain, however for federation to work the company you wish to federate with must add you as a hosting provider (this is how Office 365 does it). The other option is as stated above but requires additional administrative overhead, in particular certificates.

Hope that helps.
