Lync Mac 2011 cannot write into shared desktop session with Windows 2013

Hello.

Recently our organization initiated a beta test for Lync (switching from Communicator 2007). I am currently the only Mac client included.

The problem I have is that although Windows users using Lync 2013 or Communicator can share their desktops with me and I can have control of the cursor, I cannot write into the shared session. Its not the UAC dialogue. I cannot write in any text field anywhere. Naturally in Communicator for Mac I could.

I tried to uninstall the Mac client and returned to version 14.0.1 and slowly upgraded all the way to 14.0.7. The issue was present throughout.

The firewall is currently disabled on the Mac and the ports are open on the Windows PCs.

I believe that the issue is with the Lync software itself and not the server/permissions because my account works fine Windows to Windows sharing. Anyone else experiencing the same issue?

My setup is: Mac OS 10.9.1 and Lync 2011. Clients are: Windows 7 & 8, some have Communicator 2007 R2 and some have Lync 2013.

Thanks so much for the help!

As far as I understand this is normal behavior. When sharing permission elevated applications, the person you are sharing with will not be able to control them.

Thanks for the reply. But this is not permissions elevated. I cannot write at any time in any text area. I can however use the cursor to control the interface. What I've found is that Mac to Windows cannot type. Windows to Windows can type. Mac to anything cannot give control. The last two are normal. But Mac to Windows worked in Communicator for Mac just not in Lync.

Hi,

If possible, please try to test the issue between this Mac Lync client and another Windows Lync client. Please also try to login another Mac Lync client and test with the same Windows Lync client to test the issue.

Thank you so much for the suggestions.

So an update...

I reinstalled a defferent Mac with Mavericks 10.9.1 and Lync 2011 14.0.1 and had the exact same results. I upgraded to 14.0.7 and had the same results. I have now tried from two distinct Mac clients and to varios Windows clients (5+) each time with the same results.

I started this thread first (not realizing the Office 365 forum is not the right place)

The support staff there have found the same issue.

Its actually quite debilitating. Perhaps there is a simple fix to do on my end that will resolve things.

Thanks again!

Hi,

Did you solve the issue yet?

Please update to the latest version of Lync server on Microsoft Website and then test again:

Unfortunately that is out of my scope as I do not deal with server side issues but I will pass along the information to see if that update has been run. I assume it has but since we have 20,000+ employees I doubt that I will receive approval to personally request this sort of update.

This has become one of the most frustrating and typically Microsoft issues I have encountered recently and has really soured my opinion about recommending other MS solutions on my team.
