Lync Emoticons not updating.

Afternoon all,

Recently we installed Lync 2013 on several computers in an office, and some of them have upgraded to the latest Skype version of emoticons, while others have not yet.  Is there a specific update, or download that I need to get in order to have them all the same?  They all want to use the new ones rather than Lync originals.  Thanks

Hi

Its likely that the Lync clients that have sfb emoticons will probably mean they have the April 2015 patch installed that upgrades the client to sfb. The reason why they are using the lync ui will be down to your lync server / client policy.

The lync clients that aren't updated will be lync 2013 native clients. To upgrade them you first need Office 2013 service pack 1 installed, even if you only have the lync 2013 client and office 2010 for instance. Once this is installed you need this patch installed https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/2889923

You can upgrade them all to skype ui by registry key or perferably using the client policy set-csclientpolicy -identity global -enableskypeui $true

Provided your lync servers are patched to the April 2015 CU.

thanks

Hi Justin,

You need to install the April 14, 2015 update for Lync 2013. After apply this update , Lync 2013 will be upgraded to Skype for Business which includes the new animated emoticons.

A few notes and the related KB for your reference. (Both updates are cumulative and contain all previously released fixes for Lync 2013.)

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2889853

Notes:

  • You must install both patches on a minimum build of 15.0.4569.1506 (SP1).
  • After you apply this April 14, 2015 update, Lync 2013 will be upgraded to Skype for Business.  Info about the new experience in Skype for Business.
  • For your customers information: You can still use the Lync client user interface after you apply this update for Skype for Business. Here is info on how to switch between the Skype for Business and the Lync client user interfaces for Office 365 users and Lync Server 2013 users.

Best regards,

Eric
