Lync Cisco integration and Missed Call Alert

we have configured a sip trunk between cisco call manager and lync server, on cisco we have configured remote destinations for lync extensions, if a call comes to cisco ip phone it will ring both cisco ip phone and lync client.

there is no integration with UM for lync, however cisco is using Exchange as UM,

missed call alerts work automatically work for lync but the problem is if a call is coming to cisco (will ring both cisco and lync) and is answered by cisco ip phone lync client generate a missed call email in the outlook.

i do not want to remove missed call alerts entirely but for a call who is answered by cisco there should be no miss call alert in lync.

what is the way out for this

Hi Tanveer,

There is no way out of what your describing other than trying to avoid it by extending the timer that delays the ringing of the Lync client in CUCM. This might avoid Lync ringing before its really needed and avoid the missed call alert when the call is answered on the Cisco IP hand set.

Cheers

Chris

i have already increased to one ring but customer doesnt like it at all,

what i am thinking is that there should be a proper sip message from cisco side to lync to terminate the call in which lync does not think that this call has been missed.

i have checked entire sip trunk settings in cisco and remote destinations settings even but i am not able to find anything as of now

This is an ugly solution but might get you to the behavior you are looking for.  Make your DID in cisco point to the medation server ip only, then have Lync dual ring the Cisco phone.  This might involve editing the extensions on your lync env to have a slightly different number than your cisco extensions.

this is what i can not convice the customer to do, if cisco understands that call has been answered by lync and does not generate the miss called alert by lync can not do this,

these tricky glitches in lync are hurting its value

can you tell me how these miss call notifications are coming. there is no integration with exchange,

outlook himself is sending these notifications. or what is the case

Hi tanveer,

This is lync client and exchange UM function.

Though you do not integrated Lync server with exchange UM. If the Lync client find a missed call, Lync Server generates a missed call notification by sending a SIP INFO message to Exchange UM, which in turn performs a reverse number lookup of the caller and sends email to the callee with the missed call details.

In your deployment, the Lync server do not know the incoming calls is answered by cisco IP phone, so it get a missed call. I think it is normal. However, the IP phone is different from Lync Phone Ed

Lync generates the missed call notification and connects to Exchange using MAPI RPC (Exchange 2003) or EWS (Exchange 2007/2010) to insert this message into the Exchange mailbox.

This behaviour is independent of Exchange UM and Lync integration.

i have spoken to the customer they want miss call alerts, but these fake alerts they do not want,

i do not have a solution for i am planning to open up a case on microsoft support and with cisco TAC as well.

i have seen log in lync, when a call come from cisco which is ringing an ip phone as and if ip phone picks up the call i get a sip cancel message in logs,

what i understand from that sip cancel message indicates cancellation of a call, for normal call clearing cisco should send a Bye message,

cisco is not under my control cisco people say that there is no configuration you can do in cisco for such scenarios

and i am stuck with this issue

Hey,

Did you ever find a way to have a SIP answered notification sent over the trunk?

Thanks,

Dwayne.

Hi,

I'm having same setup. Did you find any resolution for such scenario.

We need to get rid of fake alerts as well.
