Lync 2013 Question

HI Guys,

thanks for reading this, I had a general question about lync 2013, we have a client that want to use a piece of software for desktop sharing and lync came to mind as me and my team use it and find it very useful, can you desktop share Lync with someone else without having lync installed, and can this be anywhere in the world ?

Thank you

Liam

Hi Liam,

Yes and no... In a peer to peer scenario there is no way for you to share your desktop with another user that does not have Lync installed.

That said, you would be able to create a conference with the non-lync user and send them the invite to that conference via email for example. When they accept the meeting the Lync webapp will launch for them in a browser (as they don't have Lync installed). Now that they're essentially using Lync through the web browser, you would be able to share your desktop with them and allow them to see your screen.

In regards to anywhere in the world; yes, providing that you have the correct Lync roles deployed in your topology there are no boundaries regarding Lync communication - if there's internet access... there's Lync.

So unfortunately unless you create a conference with a non-lync user, there's no instant desktop sharing solution.

Note that this is a one way scenario and the webapp user cannot share their desktop with the Lync user.

That's perfect thank you very much for the prompt response.

Hi,

Lync Web App is the web-based conferencing client for Lync Server 2013 meetings. If Lync 2013 is not installed on a users computer and the user clicks a meeting link in a meeting request, Lync Web App opens.
