Lync 2013: We didnt find an audio device, which you need for calling

Running Lync 2013  (32bit) on Windows 8.1 (64bit).  When I launch Lync cannot see an audio device even though audio devices work outside of Lync.  Device Manager reports the devices as installed and running correctly.  The Windows Audio and Windows Audio Endpoint Builder services are running.

I have a Jabra Evolve 65 and a Logitech Webcam C930e connected.  The webcam can be seen for video in Lync, but not audio.

The only way I get it to recognize, is to launch Lync using 'Run as Administrator'.  This is required whether I logon as a general user, or logon as a user that is a member of the local admins group.

I have tried the following (including the 'workarounds' I have found while searching):

- Upgrade BIOS of the system.

- Upgraded all drivers to latest revision.

- Patched Lync to latest Windows Update version.

- Workaround 1: Removed all USB hubs in Device Manager, reboot and reconnect devices.  No change in behavior.

- Workaround 2: Deinstalled and reinstalled Office and Lync.  No change in behavior.

- Workaround 3: Disable power save setting for USB, and disabled 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power' for each USB Root Hub.  No change in behavior.

- Workaround 4: Disabled UAC - didnt work, and not practical to disable UAC on a system.

- Workaround 5: Add Localservice and networkservice to admins group - confirmed AudioSrv And Audio Endpoint Builder were listed with permissions to the hklm/software/microsoft/windows/currentversion/mmdevices and subkeys, see https://social.technet.microsoft.com/forums/lync/en-US/02169579-841f-44d6-9c43-edff70803a7a/no-device-is-found-you-cannot-make-phone-calls - Confirmed security perms were correct on mmdevices, no change in behavior.

What would cause Lync to fail to recognize Audio devices unless it is 'run as Administrator'?

Hi stevefos70,

Are you using Windows Embedded 8.1 Industry ?

If this is the case, please disable USB Device filtering.

If not, did you test the issue with another computer ?

Best regards,

Eric
