Lync 2013-Autodiscovery being forced by GPO

Hey guys,

I have made a change in Group Policy and now trying to force my clients back to use AutoDiscovery for their Lync server.  So I loaded the Lync2013 template and change the "Specify Server" to disabled.  According to the template in the GPO, if you disable that policy setting Lync will use a DNS lookup to indentify the server.  That would be perfect.  The problem is the GPO then greys out the entire "Advanced" tab so I cannot verify this.  I try to go into HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Lync\user@contoso.com\Autodiscovery to very it is working correctly and do not see which setting can verify this setting.  If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.

Dave

Try setting this reg key to 0, it should put them back to automatically discovering servers without disabling anything.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Lync

"ConfigurationMode"=dword:00000000

That is the regkey I see in the Lync2013 Admin template that makes the GPO, but no configurationmode key in that location in the clients that receive the GPO.  That is what is making me question the GPO itself and I might just make my own GPO with that settings in there and deploy it that way.  If I look under HKCU\Software\policies\microsoft\office\15.0\lync I do see configurationmode of 0

That's the key to set.  You could go ahead and run your own GPO and just flip that reg key if you want.  Either way it should work, though it's strange that you set the key with the template and it's not set on the client.  If you run GPResult /v do you see it?

If I run gpresult /v I do see the configurationmode, but again it is set under the other location.  My guess is that because I am using an admin template it puts it there, so that if the computer falls out of scope the setting will not tattoo.  I bet if I did this through GPP where it tattoos that setting that it would load it in the correct location.  your post has been extremely helpful, because I just could not find that regkey and also cannot click on Advanced button to confirm that the GPO was working correctly.  Your details helped
