Lync 2011 Version 14.0.11 (150403) Continuously Freezes & Crashes

I am running Lync 2011 Version 14.0.11 (150403) and it freezes and crashes on me daily and multiple times per day. Most of the time once it freezes/crashes I force quit and relaunch and it will freeze/crash again until I reboot the machine, but on a rare occasion it will launch again.

I am using an "Elgato" thunderbolt connected hub for a monitor (Dell) connected by a DVI to Mini Display adapter and multiple USB devices for Keybaord and iPhone doc (belkin). I also have a separate DVI to Mini Display adapter that I connect as a 2nd connection directly into the laptop so I can run 2 monitors.

It seems that when I disconnect and reconnect these 2 ports, that's when I start having problems...though it doesn't always happen.

I have reported the issue and was hoping this last update resolved, but no dice.

It's very frustrating, but a necessary application as our entire organization of 4k employee's run on Lync for communication.

HELP!

Thanks

Hi,

Did the issue happen before install the KB3037358?

If yes, try to uninstall the update and then test the issue again.

Please try to test the issue without any external equipment to narrow down the issue.

If the issue still happen, please try to uninstall Lync client completely with the help of the link below, then install it again:

Thanks for the reply.

Yes I had this issue prior to the update. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the application since having the issue and it persists.

Today I minimized the use of the external hub connected by thunderbolt and didn't have a crash, so I believe its isolated to that device.

Any thoughts on how to continue using the device and resolving the crashing issues? I seem to recall during my research a previous complaint of a thunderbolt connected device causing crashes in an earlier release of Lync.

Thanks

This morning when I came in, I connected my Thunderbolt 2 Dock by elgato as normal. My computer woke up from sleep and when I clicked on Lync to log in, it immediately froze.

I force quit Lync, unplugged the thunderbolt dock and clicked Lync and it immediately logged in without a problem.

I really think the thunderbolt port being used is causing issues for Lync, because it hasn't had an issue since then.

I guess Microsoft needs to look at that for an update, assuming they still care about Lync on Mac.

Hi,

Base on your description above, the issue should be related with the thunderbolt dock.

The next version of Office for Mac will be released this year, the Skype for Business (Lync) for Mac client should be included in it.

From http://blogs.office.com/2014/10/31/new-outlook-mac-available-office-365-customers/

In the first half of 2015 we will release a public beta for the next version of Office for Mac, and in the second half of 2015 we will make the final release available.

I initially thought it was the thunderbolt dock as well, but since I have eliminated it from my setup/usage I am noticing the same issue even without it.

I am using 2 DVI to Mini Display port adapters which of course use the same port as the thunderbolt ports, but no longer using the thunderbolt dock...yet I still have the issue of Lync Freezing up and crashing.

Eason (or whomever else),

I feel confident that the issue is isolated to anything being plugged into the thunderbolt port(s) when the computer sleeps and then wakes up.

Lync seems to freeze and will not start back up unless I remove the items from those thunderbolt/mini display ports, force quit Lync and then start back up with nothing plugged into the thunderbolt/mini display ports.

I think there is something tied to how Lync reacts when the computer wakes from sleep with something in those ports.
