Lync 2011 Mac Book air Video calling

I cannot seem to get the Lync video calling to work on the Mac Book air, I have tried a few different copmputers but the video button in the client is always greyed out - am I missing something or trying to do something that just doesnt work ?

I tried MAC > PC, MAC > MAC - none of which work, PC > PC is fine.

Thanks :)

Could you configure your Video camera in the Lync Client on the MAC

No the option is greyed out, it seems as though lync does not recoginse the camera. I have tried at least 5 different webcams, all of which work with Skype/Facetime - the Lync client just does not see any of them.

I have restarted many times, I cannot get Lync to see any of the cameras, including the built in camera or a MS lifecam studio (which is supposed to work).

any pointers would be great, could this be something on the server side ? it looks like a client problem to me.

Thanks

Hi,

If you use the USB vedio device, please restart the Lync client after you plus the USB device in the PC.

Please refer the following article about devices certified for Mac:  http://blogs.technet.com/b/uc/archive/2011/09/02/what-devices-have-been-certified-for-mac.aspx

Can anyone confirm that this actually works with the MACbook air ? I tried everything I can think of, but the video button is always greyed out, is there something else I need to do ?

Hi,

Please have a try to update the latest packages for the Lync for Mac client and check whether the latest update can fix it.

I have the same issue and have tested with 3 different MacBook Airs. All running the latest OSX (ML 10.8), Lync 2011 (14.2), O365 accounts, each Mac different HW releases (early 2011, mid 2011, mid 2012).

Video calls from the MacBook Airs DO NOT work. If the person you are connecting to is a PC user, you can see them but your camera will not work.

Here is the error message received on all MacBook Air/Lync 2011 client when trying to make a video call:

" Your webcam is not available. Make sure that your webcam is correctly configured and is not being used by another application. Then start the call again."

There are no other applications using the webcam and there are no settings available to configure the webcam from Lync. Video calls work from from all other installed video presence applications.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

I found a solution!

Before starting up Lync and logging in, all other video presence applications must be closed, including iMessage!

If you are already logged in to Lync and any other video presence application was opened prior, then you must restart Lync after said application(s) has been closed. What we are trying to accomplish is to make sure that no other video application or related-to-video application is open before starting Lync.

iMessage is directly connected to FaceTime, which wasn't obvious to me at first since FaceTime opens up as its own separate application. However, this was the final hurdle I had to get over before I could successfully use the video call feature.

I hope this helps all who are facing the same frustrating issue!

Cheers everyone,

I have the same issue:

1. Switched off Facetime (by opening and disabling)

2. Switched off imessage (same)

3. Restarted.

Still doesn't work. Although it did the first time I launched in, but never since.

I have nothing else other than office installed so I don't know what else could be using the camera.

I even tried resetting PRAM!
