Lync 2010 client silent installation in custom directory

Hi,

I am trying to install Lync 2010 client installation silently in custom directory but whatever switch i use the installation is happening only in C drive.

I followed http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg425733.aspx

LyncSetup.exe -v" /install /qn INSTALLDIR=\"D:\Program Files\""

LyncSetup.exe /Install /Silent  /v" INSTALLDIR="D:\Program Files\""

LyncSetup.exe /Install /Silent  /v"INSTALLDIR="D:\Program Files\""

LyncSetup.exe /Install /Silent  /v"INSTALLDIR=\"D:\Program Files\""

LyncSetup.exe -v" /qn INSTALLDIR=\"D:\Program Files\""

None of them are working.  Log files (OCBoot) from location C:\Users\Administrator\Tracing says

LOGGING STARTED
64 Bit Setup is running, checking for NOX86
NOX86 length : '2'

Parameter(s) incorrect. Displaying help.

LyncSetup /Option

Install Options
/Install - Installs all files
/Uninstall - Removes all files

Display Options
/Silent - no UX displayed

ENDED LOGGING

I even tried to extract the exe file and use .msi file to installation.

Error shown: Microsoft Lync 2010 must be installed by running the appropriate Lync Setup Executable.

Please help with proper swithces

I'm also having problems with a deployment. I'm using System Center Essentials 2010 to try and deploy Lync Attendee, using the .exe. I added /install /silent to my switches, but when I try and run the installation for a client via Windows Update it just sits there and spins, and the installation never completes. I've tested this on several different computers.

I was also unable to find the MSI. Does anyone know where I can download it directly?

Overall, this is very frustrating for such a tiny application.....any help is greatly appreciated!

MSI can be found at the C:\Program Files\OCSetup, after executing the lyncsetup.exe but do not start the installation. once the files are extracted you can cancel the installation of LyncSetup.exe.

EXE should work well with /install /silent.

I am not able to use the switch /installdir. Any one has the answer? much appreciated.

Hi,

You can try to deploy Lync client via Script and WMI Filters.

Create a share folder and cope the client installation file into it.

Create a bat file to run the exe file and create GPO to apply the script.

Hi Kent,

Installing link via script/GPO is fine. All the options installs in C Drive.

My question is How do I install it in D Drive?

/InstallDir switch is not working at all.

I was unable to find the OCSetup folder in either Program Files folders (this is a 64-bit machine and I checked both)...the folder simply wasn't there.

I decided to go hunting for it and actually found it here:

C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Local\AOCSetup

Hope this helps someone else out here! Now I just need to test the deployment with the MSI via SCE.

Just following up here.

I was able to deploy the extracted MSI via System Center Essentials (SCE) 2010 today, and it installed normally.

There is also a patch that gets extracted that is a .MSP file. That, unfortunately, cannot be deployed via SCE. I'm hoping that a newer update/patch that is regularly available via System Center will just take care of the other update. I have found a way to deploy the MSP patch, but it is not smart enough to check for the base installation, so I will need to wait until all of the installations are done before I can do that.

This is the method I used to deploy the MSP via SCE:

1. Create a folder that will contain the update. Copy the MSP to the folder. Copy CMD.EXE from the system folder and put a copy in the update folder.

2. Manually create an update in SCE, point it to the folder. Set command switch: /c msiexec.exe /p application_update.msp

I took that from here: http://www.edunnewijk.nl/fatshark/index.php?/archives/162-Deploying-MSP-files-with-System-Center-Essentials-or-Login-script.html

Hi,

No one from Microsoft has an answer to install Lync 2010 client in D drive using silent switches?

Please help if its possible.

I know this is an old thread; but here's the answer on the silent install to a non-default directory:

It can't be done.

Per TechNet (Bold for emphasis):

Command-Line Argument Description

/Silent

Suppresses the installation user interface, and uses default values for other installation options (for example, installation directory). This argument can be used along with the /Install, /Uninstall, and /Repair arguments.
