Can Lync 2010 Standard be configured for Instant Messaging without using Exchange? I current have Exchange 2003.

Lync 2010 is not dependent on Exchange for most of its features, instant messaging works perfectly without it.

It finally worked for me. It took over a day for the Address Book to download to the client.
