You can check the detailed call flow for Lync sign in process from page 7 in the Chapter_10_Instant_Messaging.doc in the following link.

Hello,
There are no difference in Sign-in process in OCS and Lync.'
As OCS, In Lync also have same DNS records for automatic sign-in. SRV (With Pool FQDN) and A (SIP Domain).
Before MOC 2007R2/ Lync 2010 can log on to OCS/ Lync Server, the client needs to locate the users OCS/Lync Server. When the client is set to use automatic configuration, it uses the domain portion of the SIP URI provided by the user to discover which OCS/Lync Server it should sign in to. E.g. mydomain.com
This discovery process involves querying DNS SRV records. The client attempts to resolve the following SRV records in the following order to get the FQDN.
_sipinternaltls._tcp.mydomain.com (port: 5061) -> this is for Internal access.
Currently we dont have external login for your information here is the external SRV record
_sip._tls..com (Port 443)
Once MOC2007R2/Lync 2010 connects to the OCS/ Lync Server, and the authentication process begins.
Client = MOC2007R2 / Lync 2010 Server = OCS 2007 R2 / Lync Server 2010.
