Lync 2010: In a new installation, will the address book update occur automatically without running additional routines on the Lync server?

Lync 2010 was installed yesterday. This was an initial installation for maybe 200 people out of 1300 at our company.

Our IT Dept. indicated the address book would finish updating overnight, but as of this morning that has not happened.

Is there something more that IT needs to do on the Lync server?

Thank you!

By updating, do you mean being able to search on your client or showing an update?  In either case, tell your IT department to look into setting WebSearchOnly, it will solve a lot of headaches and is a (at least mine and many others) recommended path for a company of your size: http://blog.schertz.name/2010/11/forcing-lync-address-book-web-query/

Hi njcmiller,

The Address Book process runs at a fixed (pre-configured) time each day or can be forced to do an immediate synchronization by using a Windows PowerShell command (Update-CSAddressbook).

Active Lync clients update the Address Book every 24 hours by downloading a new delta file (GMT 00:00). If a client logs off (for example, a user shuts down his workstation), the client updates the address book as soon as the client logs in again, but only if the last connection was more than 24 hours ago.

And as Anthony suggested, WebSearchOnly might be a good choice in your situation.

Best regards,

Eric
