Lost access to USER IDENTITY at Login... Went to unknown user
I worked last night for a few hours and installed two ASHAMPOO products (their Photo and Office Software) and all was working fine after rebooting and I made sure all was well and working properly with the new program and the existing ones as well. I woke this morning and turned computer on and an error came up saying it could not find The Regular (or standard) USER but it gave no name of the user and it then opened to a blank desktop. I did a system restore to yesterday but STILL NOTHING. I went to Control Panel's USER ACCOUNTS and do NOT see any account listed other than Guest and Administrator but both are empty of files and folders and desktop items. I can still see all of the MY programs and folders that I was using when I look in Windows Explorer but have no way of importing all of to a new identity (or user) that I created. I checked to see if the files and folders had any rhyme or reason but it looks like the USER account I am seeking is not able to be accessed by any means. I see a folder on the C: Drive that seems to have my correct desktop links and I also see "Program Files" as well with my programs (except for Outlook Express (which is ALSO urgently needed). I now can also see about four unknown user accounts (only through Windows Explorer - not in the User Accounts area) that I do not recognize and all are empty of any of my information or desktop items. I desperately need to find a way to get the computer to use my USER account so I can get my desktop and programs and email back.PLEASE HELP ME!1 person needs an answerI do too

This sounds a lot like a corrupted user profile. It should not be too difficult to recover from this. Try this Microsoft article:"How to recover the damaged user profile in Windows XP" < http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555473 >Hope this helps, JW
