Lost Updates, dll files & windows update failed.
Hi,I have encountered a problem with my PC and have no clue as to what went wrong. I have Windows XP Home, Version 5.1.2600 SP3 Build 2600; Office 2007; IE8 Version 8.0.6001.18702 & I have always left the automatic updates just take care of themselves.I found a program on my system, “Office live workspace” I needed some assistance with a document written in word and signed in, uploaded the file. The site requested I install an update. That was the start 28/05/2010.Next time I turned on my computer it started as normal and got my desk top screen, but I had no mouse or keyboard control, (Ctrl+Alt+Del) would not open the task manager so I had to turn off the power, turn back on and try to start in safe mode. I tried to run my anti-virus/spy prog’s but no programs, at all, would open, no shortcuts working. Navigated to program files and clicked the (.exe) file to run and this reactivated sortcut to program, computer clean and no problems. No Office software would open so ran repair with office disc, all restored except outlook; lost link from outlook to hotmail and no calendars, outlook locked up; Uninstalled outlook connecter and got all functions in outlook back. Looking in the add/remove program list via control panel a lot of updates seemed have odd entry’s went clicking for info (Update ID {DAC0309E-07F6-45AD-B5BF-5B0DEF71FFEE}). I ran a registry cleanup program (CClean) that reported 576 problems, did not try to fix but I used system restore to reset to a date before using “Office Workspace” but still have missing updates, Dll files (iecont & iecontlc), a lot of missing files which relate to .Net Framework & its updates. Restored to a date one month before and still same problems, but CClean reports only 41 registry problems. IE8 is still slow, hangs if I have more than 3 tabs open, so forced to use chrome till I get this sorted.Have tried to use windows update site to replace these but all updates fail to install (auto & custom), have followed instructions to register the auto installer files (KB822798 & KB943144) but installer will not install any update. Looked at event viewer and found (“source = Hotfixinstaller; category = none; event = 5000”)Downloaded one of the updates (NDP35sp1-KB958484-x86) direct to a file and tried to install by clicking the .exe but again failed to install. Can anyone please suggest what I need to do to get back the missing updates, Dll files and get the auto-update working again? 1 person got this answerI do too

Finally managed to sort every thing out:-Downloaded and ran .Net Framework clean up utility (922377); Re-reistered dll file to do with Cryptographic Services (822798); Manually downloaded and ran .NET Framework 1.0, then one by one the 3 Service Packs); Manually downloaded and ran .NET Framework 2.0 and then one by one the 2 service packs; Manually downloaded and ran .NET Framework 3.0; From this point on the auto-downloads kicked in and downloaded the rest of the .NET Framework. Everything back to normal once I defragged the drive and set a new restore point.
