Lost File during cut and paste file operation
How is it possible to lose a file during a cut and paste operation?? I was copying seven avi files from my Windows 7 laptop to my Windows Home Server over a wireless connection each of around 350Mb. as it was copying the first file, I lost my network connection and a dialog box was displayed prompting me to "Try again". I re-established the connection and clicked the "Try again" button. The file move (cut and paste) operation continued without further error. However when the operation completed the first file that was being moved when the network connection failed was not to be found in either the source or destination folders or for that matter in any recycling folders. The file had been deleted (cut) from the source folder, but had not been pasted into the destination folder. This was not the first time this has happened to me. This happened on a previous occasion during a cut and paste operation, when the network went down because of a power cut. At that time I put the problem down to the power cut. But this seperate network failure shows there is an underlying problem with moving files across a network. I have reported my current network problem in a seperate topic - http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itpronetworking/thread/b04e32dd-b563-4724-a735-2621eb48c0cf regards Tony Self

It is always safer not to cut and paste, but to copy and paste, then delete the copied files from their source location. Ken Blake

I had the same thing happen to me on Windows 7. I've never seen anything happen like this before in all my years. I always use cut that way if you run into problems you don't have duplicate files. I cut a folder with about 2000 pictures in it. Pasted it to a folder with same name, it asked me to merge I said yes, got about 10% through the move and then said can't find source files. Happened twice so I had to use copy instead. This has to be a bug, I can replicate the issue.
