Lost Downloads folder

Greetings,

I recently "misplaced" my Downloads folder for lack of better words to describe what happened. So I was trying to redirect the folder to a different partition (Storage with the D:\ letter assignet to it), the fact of the matter is that I can't for the life of me recall what I did to "misplace" it.

I can not send a screenshot though.

Thanks in advance.

By the way, I can access the Downloads folder only by clicking on the Favorites section, but that is just a soft link.

What do you see in your Address bar if you open  shell:Downloads  and then right-click Edit?   Hmm... not what I was expecting.  Now I also have to use right-click in the Navigation pane, Properties (or F6, Menu r  YMMV), Location tab to see that.  Who knew?

Alternatively, in IE press Ctrl-j and use the Options... button.  Nope.  Same unexpected unqualified name.

Hi,

Thanks for the prompt answer, I both the steps provided in the post but I does not help, I believe it is a difficult task without a screenshot to clarify:

Also, a peculiar thing, when I tried the first method I got an error message stating that I can't access the System volume information folder on my D: drive; Do I need to set proper permissions for the folder?, How?, why?. BTW, I checked for virus and malware with various tools with to avail, I even tried the steps above on my Admin account.

Hope I can get some more help this way thanks.

Did you try what I suggested?

Try expanding Storage (D:).  I think it likely that the F6 might want to go there.   OTOH if  shell:Downloads  causes an error message then you would know that your Downloads "folder" is not accessible.

An alternative would be to go rooting around in the User Shell Folders in the registry.

Oh.  I see we can also use right-click Open Folder Location on the Downloads shortcut.  Then use right-click Properties, Location, etc. on that.

Hi,

Robert, I appreciate your help, I don't know what messed everything up but when I typed shell:Downloads in the address bar the Downloads folder corrected itself, I am in awe.

I had to change the folder's attributes via this command

attrib -s -h C:\Users\USERNAMEHERE\Downloads since the folder was hidden and considered a system folder.

Thank you.
