Here's the scenario: A) Vista PC on net with other Vista PCs and XP PCs, using wifi to router, IP DHCP, etc. B) Opens Excel Spreadsheet locally, deletes a value and hits Control Z. Takes 20-40 seconds to restore the delete, meanwhile the wifi adapter goes haywire, presumably doing an unneeded correspondence with the other PCs on the LAN, delaying the restore and locking his mouse/insertion cursor in Excel, driving user nuts. Saves the changed Spreadsheet, takes another 40 seconds to save it or longer. Meanwhile, Vista sends messages cross the WIFI during which the delay occurse even just saving. C) Just to demonstrate it isn't local issue, but has to do with Windows Networking updating remote clients unneccessarily, or somethin',he disconnects the Wifi, so there is no local network other than Localhost. Repeating the steps in (B) takes only 1-second. Is not caching, because he can boot up, disconnect from WIFI and then do the delete and the save and they take only 1-second. Reconnects the Wifi, and does the delete, restore or a save and the transaction time returns to 40 seconds or longer and his adapter goes haywire.. Have no time to Fiddle with it. He can't run with the network connection disconnected all the time as he has network printers connected, which, btw, print very slowly much of the time when hosted on a remote Vista system. Wifi in use is high end D-Link USB adapter, but it is adapter independent. He is running Vista 32 Business Edition, with 2.4 and 2.66 GHZ Core 2 Duos with 2 MB DDR2, 150GB Raptor, and the Router is a high end DLINK wifi but 11MB connection. Anyone see a fix? It appears the delay has to do with a multicast or other message sent out when the network is connected to warn the other PCs on that Router/Lan what the update or save operation is, and it is BLOCKING his Excel access while it is laboriously doing so. It is confirmed that the Wifi connection connected is the reason. Disconnecting the WIFI does eliminate the delay. So Windows Networking interacting with the FS and Excel are likely the problem. I have looked for a policy or timeout or election function not to update the connected computers everytime he modifies or saves an Excel Spreasheet in Office 2007, or other apps which do similarly, and haven't found one. Anyone see a KB about this? Not seeing one specific to Excel, and he has all currentVista patches installed. and SP1 for Office 2007. Microsoft: do you know what I can set in that PC to eliminate the delay, which when not on the WIFI does not happen? Thank you.

Before we go further, please confirm if the issue persists with a new Excel file created: ============================= Please create a new blank Excel file locally on the Windows Vista machine and check the following points: 1. Open this new file, add a value and press Ctrl+Z. How does it work? 2. After modifying the Excel file, try to save it. How does it work? I look forward to your reply. I have been having the same problem for quite some time. It takes forever to save an Excel 2007 file whether large or small. I am running Vista Business on one machine and Vista Ultimate on another machine. The files I am trying to save can have no calculations in them - or a bunch - it doesn't seem to matter.
