Logon takes minutes to hours if offline files are enabled
If I make files available offline and later try to log on, it takes up to an hour to logon, I can see the files being check if I look at the home drive server, I need a way of forcing the home drive offline at login much like you could with XP using CSCCMD. We have enabled slowlink mode through group policy which seems to be working as once it has logged in all files are available and it says offline (slow connection), it seems to be the initial check at login which is causing my problem. Can anyone help ?

Do you force sync of files on logon? We use offline files with all our laptop users here (over 600) and really do not have any issues with it... since Vista, it just seems to work... I know with XP we did force sync on logon, but because the sync with Vista/7 is now asynchronous there really is no need. Vista/7 seems to handle the offline files cache quite well with almost no user intervention. -Dan

No we don't force sync, it does a quick check as the user logs on by default, trouble is we have very slow links between our branch sites. When the user is sat their home depot the sync is fine as it has a good 100mb link to the server, but when they go to other offices it still tries to sync to their home server which takes far to long, I nned a way of forcing the laptop to think the home server is offline when they log in at another depot.

Hi, To enable Slow-link mode is a workaround for this issue. Also, there is an alternative workaround for your reference: Logon takes minutes to hours if offline files are enabled. Meanwhile, we can disable offline files in one Windows 7 client and check if the logon is still slow. Please also collect the userenv.log and Winlogon.log for further research: · 1. Collect Userenv.log Please do as following steps on these problematic client to obtain detailed troubleshooting information from the user environment debug log. 1) Start Registry Editor(Regedit.exe). 2) Locate and then click the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon 3) Right-click and new add DWORD(32-bit) with the Value of "UserEnvDebugLevel" 4) Type in 100002(Hexadecimal) or 65538(Decimal) in the Value data box, and then click OK. 5) Reboot the problematic computer to make the change take into effect. The Userenv.log is located in the folder: %SYSTEMDRIVE%\Debug\UserMode\ 2. Collect Winlogon.log Please do as following steps on these problematic computer to enable "winlogon.log" as the delay occurs during computer startup: 1) Start Registry Editor(Regedit.exe) 2) Locate and click the following key in the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\GPExtensions\{827D319E-6EAC-11D2-A4EA-00C04F79F83A}. Please note: The above registry key is one path; it has been wrapped for readability. 3) Edit the following registry value: Value name: ExtensionDebugLevel Data type: DWORD Value data: 2 4) Quit Registry Editor 5) Reboot the computer The Winlogon.log file is created in the folder: %systermroot% \Security\Logs, please upload them to Windows Live SkyDrive (http://www.skydrive.live.com/) and share theirs URLs with us.
