Logitech Harmony Software not working in (basic) Windows 8.1 version

Hi there,

recently i bought a Logitech Harmony Remote Controle (RC) type 900.

I'm using / need to use the Logitech software to update / change this RC.

Earlier i did use the Harmony RC One+.

With the RC One+ i have no problems syncing the RC with my PC running the Logitech Software.

Howerver, with the RC 900 it isn't possible to sync with the PC. The Harmony software doesn't recognize the RC 900.

In various forums and from Logitech i've heard that this is a problem with Windows 8.1.

This problem doesn't exist with 8.1 Pro or Enterprise.

Is Microsoft aware of this problem and will this be fixed in Windows10 (basis version) so that the Harmony software will recognize the RC?

Hi,

I checked the compatibility information in the compatibility center, but didn't find clear valuable information, the result is shown as below.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-in/windows/compatibility/CompatCenter/ProductDetailsViewer?Type=Hardware&Name=Logitech+Harmony+900+Remote+Control&ModelOrVersion=996-000101&Vendor=Logitech&Locale=1033%2C2057%2C3081%2C4105%2C16393&LastSearchTerm=Logitech%2BHarmony&BreadcrumbPath=Logitech+Harmony&TempOsid=Windows+8.1

And I checked the software list in the link below, no option to download Logitech Harmony Remote Software for Windows 8.1, have you tried to install the software in compatibility mode? right click the installation.exe\Compatibility. Meanwhile, I suggest you contact Logitech support and confirm the issue, members in Logitech would be more familiar with this device.

Hi there Yolanda,

many thanks for your reaction.

Installing in the compatibilty mode doesn't solve the problem.

It's correct that there isn't a specific software version voor Win8.1.

There is no need for it. It works fine with win8.1 as long as you don't use a Harmony 900 in combination with the basic version of Win8.1 (so pro and better is fine).

This information i have from Logitech Support in the Netherlands and from various people in a Dutch Harmony-forum.

Logitech doesn't want to contact Microsoft about this. I've asked Logitech this many times to do this, but they refuse (nice customer support from Logitech isn't is?).

So i'm stuck between Microsoft and Logitech.

Only solution according to Logitech: upgrade to at least Win8.1 Pro. Well, that wil cost me 150, that's too much.

So, is there a possibility that Microsoft contacts Logitech in the Netherlands about this?

If not, what must / can i do to break this wall?

Greetings,

Hi there Yolanda,

yesterday i tested my Harmony 900 with the computer of my brother (running win 8.1 professional.

Ik can hereby confirm that what Logitech is telling, that win 8.1 professional doesn't give syncing problems.

So it is definitely something is the basis-version of win 8.1.

So, please would you bring this to attention of the developpers of Windows 10 and hopefully they will correct this issue in de basis version of windows 10.

Otherwise it would be necassry for me to upgrade to professional just for solving this problem while i think Microsoft should solve this problem in Windows.

On coming tuesday i'm going to call Logitech Harmony Helpdesk in The Netherlands again and ask them too to contact Microsoft about this.

For me i would be very strange if Microsoft isn't going to solve this problem. Why i'm paying for Windows then? Using the product, but also for problems being solved by Microsoft i think.
