Logging into a locked desktop causes backup to fail.
Im using Acronis TrueImage as my Backup software and for the last 2 months Ive been having problems with Backup. (I also get the same issue with Windows Backup) . Essentailly If I log into my laptop, having intentially locked the desktop or the screen saver may have kicked in, the backup fails with a Drive is not ready error (An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk2\DR4 during a paging operation). If I kick off a backup and carry on working on my machien then it works fine or if the screen saver kicks in but I dont log back in until the backup has finished then that is OK as well. The only time the error occurs is at the moment when I log back into my laptop. Any thoughts - its driving me nuts?

That may be caused by your hardware. I suspect that the hard drive is not compatible with the driver included in system so when you lock the computer it does not work properly, or the backup process cannot get its information. If your computer is from manufacturer, try to find some driver updates from the manufacturer’s website. Also I suggest you temporary disable antivirus and check the result.Arthur Xie - MSFT

Ive tried it with USB drives from different manufacturers and I get exactly the same problem on both. Ill check to see if there are any Windows 7 drivers.

The problem is with the backup software. I now use 7-zip to backup to a USB disk (was using a server till it croaked) and it can do what I need. I do not bother with a full system backup as a fresh install of Windows usually has new updates galore. I have few programs I use so its no big deal. Games take longer to install but I do not have that many of them either. Vote if answered or helpful, I am running for Office (joke)! What is the manufacturer of your computer? I suspect that the issue is caused by the incompatible USB controller drivers. You may access the download webpage of the manufacturer’s website and download updates for your hardware. Arthur Xie - MSFT

I have a Fujitsu laptop which is 6 months old and have updated the Firmware but that didnt help. Ill check to see if there are any USB controller drivers available on the FJ support site.

Ive had a look at the FJ Support Web Site and run a scan using the Fujitsu DeskUpdate tool and there are no USB controller drivers to download - so I appear to be stuck. The Model I have is a Fujitsu Lifebook 7220.
