Locking the desktop background
Hi, I'm using Windows 7 Professional and want to lock the desktop background picture to stop others from changing it - can anyone help? Ideally I would like to do this on a Standard User account & leave the administrators account as it is, but if it has to be for all users so be it, as long as I can "unlock" it somehow at a later date. you could set the desktop background through group policy. To define a local policy, hit the start button and type gpedit.msc and press enter. Then browse to User Configuration- Administrative Templates- Desktop- Desktop. Doubleclick Desktop Wallpaper and set the path of the desktop background (mind placing the wallpaper file in a location all users can read). Only administrators can set these settings, no other users will be able to set the desktop background.MCSA/MCTS/MCP

Hi, Is it possible to set this for different accounts/users? Colin Hi, This group policy will restrict all the users on this computer. It cannot be applied to the specific accounts. Regards,Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. You could try going onto C:\WINNT and deleting all the .bmp's except the one YOU want but of course there is nothing to prevent him restoring them all, depends on how "savvy" he is,otherwise the answer is no, unless you have admin access and and can "policy" his logon.

Before I go ahead and do this, is there any chance you can tell me how I can "reverse" this to the default settings at a later date? Regards, Colin
