Local Issue regarding chat server
The problem is as follows. My friend got a new modem the Motorola sbg941u and can now no longer connect to a chat server using mIRC or using a java based applet (chatspace) chat server. They are running Windows 7 OS 64 bit. We have tried adding both mIRC and java to the allow list on the windows firewall. All other firewalls were either disabled or uninstalled. The java cache has been cleared and the dns has been flushed. Furthermore the computer has been reset to factory mode and still no luck. They can connect to the site so the applet loads and java is up to date, and also is not k-lined from the server, but they ping out after a few minutes. We tried going into the firewall settings of the modem as well. What is odd is they can run other chat servers that use the same chatspace technology. I looked into port open/close and I checked port 80 and it is closed on their computer and mine as well. I can access just fine. Any idea what could be preventing them from staying on the server?

It sounds like the remote chat-server is opening a different port for its send. See if you can find the reularly used mIRC ports and then create default inbound routes (on the router) to the computer in question. If possible, try to connect the PC directly to the internet connection and then launch mIRC and run cports to see if the remote server is using a different inbound port. CPorts link: (http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/cports.html) the actual download is toward the bottom of the page.
