Local Area Connection dropping internet
I'm having troubles with my internet loosing connection all the time with windows 7. I always have to run the diagnose on it & then it fixes it, but i'm having to do it on a regular basis. It seems to happen mostly when i have sat idle, but it has also done it a few times while i have mozilla open & using it. Any thoughts?

Hi, In addition, please try the following: 1. Disable Save Power function of the NIC 1) Click Start, right click on Computer and choose Properties. 2) Click Device Manager. 3) Navigate to your NIC, right click on it and choose Properties. 4) Choose Power Management tab. 5) Please uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power." 6) Restart the computer and check if it works. 2. Boot the system to Safe Mode with networking and keep monitoring the network status. Please check the issue will occur again. Hope this helps. Thanks.Nicholas Li - MSFT

I am having a very similar problem. I also have an nVidia sli motherboard, 680. I am using one of the two NICs with that motherboard. I have tried both and both have the same issue. The connection suddenly stops working and Windows gives me the yellow exclamation icon over the NIC icon in the notification area. If I disable and enable the connection, it fixes the problem. It seems kind of random, but if I start downloading heavily it seems to make the problem more likely to occur (like when I was downloading an ISO recently). Has been doing this with both the RC and the RTM of Windows 7 Ultimate, with the latest release drivers for nForce 680 from Nvidia.

I've got an Asus P5K with a fresh install of RTM x64. Seems to work fine until I try to copy .msdvr files to my laptop. PC locks up every time. Usually, the transfer starts, then slows down, then stops. I've used the newer driver 2.4.7.27 as well as the one that shipped with rtm. Thus far, no other random lock-ups. Power saving mode is disabled. There is no blue screen. The screen just freezes and then I find the event log shows...Log Name: SystemSource: AtcL001Date: 8/29/2009 10:23:22 PMEvent ID: 194Task Category: NoneLevel: ErrorKeywords: ClassicUser: N/AComputer: MEDIACENTERDescription:The description for Event ID 194 from source AtcL001 cannot be found. Thanks a lot for this fix bruv! This problem has been killing me since I installed 7! I was even considering going back to Vista and cancelling my pre-order copy from Amazon. You have saved Microsoft some money. Thanks again.

Exactly my error as wellwith myWin 7 64 bit.Asus P5K-V motherboard with anIntel e6750with only2 GB Ram,latest bios 1002 as well as drivers for NIC L1WinSetup_v2.4.7.27_WHQL Any fix available? This can be recreated very easily, happens all the time, on my side its different, the pc is not freezing up, when the transfer is about to drop, a popup appears asking for permission to copy the file, when you say yes, ok, give permission, it will try once more after exiting with an error, failed to copy XXXXX. After that, the pc has no connectivity what-so-ever with the network, the easiest way to fix it is to disable, then enable the network adapter. This is what appears on the event viewer. If anyone needs more information, please contact me. Researching a little more, Nicholas Li guided another user to fix a similar issue. Disabling "Large Send Offload" helped a lot, now transfers between hosts finish successfully. Although i have to mention that the network speed is slower than usual, peak transfer rates have dropped significantly. Thank you Nocholas Li, but i think there is something to look further regarding this issue. Here is the link:http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itpronetworking/thread/1a4d2315-8481-4473-bf72-0b0787423245

Hi Udi, there is no way to disable Large Send Offload in the gui. You need to go to command prompt, just like the Nicholas Li (MS Support)posted to another user in another thread.. here it is: Hi, Please try this to disable "Large Send Offload" : 1. Open an elevated command prompt and press Enter: netsh int ip set global taskoffload=disabled 2. Disable and re-enable the network interface. 3. Run the following command in an elevated command prompt to confirm the command above is successful: netsh int ip show offload Hope this helps.

Same problem here. LAN interrupts at random times... resetting the connection helps, but not for long. tried Li's solution here, I don't think, there's any improvement. I can not try the other solution, since I have a german OS and have no idea, what to do. my system: Win7 64 HP nForce 780i SLI (with two LAN ports. I deactivated the save power options on both.) hope for help, thanks

the only solution i've found is to use two lan conections and bridge them, it appears that part of the issue is that single hardware lan ports use a higher amount of cpu cycles, anything cpu intensive will drop the connection. bridging the connections for some reason negates this allowing full cpu usage. kourgath

Well, there is a solution. In the NIC settings you should find a setting related to "checksum offload" and you should disable it or turn it off. worked for me on all the ASUS motherboards. No more network disconnections. Udi Burg www.unisfair.com

Just turn off "receive side scaling" setting, it's severely bugged and causes the eventual net death under load. Supposedly will be fixed someday in nv driver 73.25 or later.

Hello, thank you very, very much for this solution. I an Asus P5k motherboard with W7 64 and a vista 32 laptop. Since month I'm searching for a solution for this problem. Never thought this could be a problem so tight at driver level. I disabled power management and Large Send Offload and now I works for huge volume as well. Who the ____ did this fault? I think he should pay me something for my hours of hours efforts to find a solution for it. urg...

Hi, I had the same problem with an Attansic L1 nic on a P5k motherboard and windows 7 x64. The thing is that the problem appeared one day suddenly. Maybe it was because of an update, I don't know. Turning off "Task Offload" was the solution for me. (Local Area Connection > Properties > Configure > Advanced > set Task Offload value off) Thank's guys.
