Local Area Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration (W7)
My computer can usually connect to most wireless networks, but after coming home from college, it has been unable to connect to anything (except the college network itself). The error it gives me is "Local Area Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration." When I accessed the CMD and ran ipconfig /all I received the following information: Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7600] Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved. Just a thought, is this a notebook or desktop pc? Btw are you connecting directly through modem or with router as well?

The computer is a Toshiba Satellite laptop. And I am using a router. BTW I have managed to successfully connect to a neighbors unsecured network but still not with the home network.

The computer is a Toshiba Satellite laptop. And I am using a router. BTW I have managed to successfully connect to a neighbors unsecured network but still not with the home network. Is there a passphrase and ssid being set and enable in your router? If there is, you need to ensure both notebook and router passphrase and ssid is the same. Having say that, you would need to logged into the router config page to do the changes and remember to save prior to exiting the router config page (use a ethernet cable to connect when you're doing the above) You might want to temp disable the security feature for the passphrase and ssid, and next do a scan to detect your wireless network. If you're able to detect your home wireless network, high chances the problem lies with the security feature enable
