Local Area Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration
Hey guys, I connect to the Internet on my Desktop through an Ethernet cable to my laptop with a shared connection. The desktop runs Win7, and the laptop runs Win XP. I booted my desktop up this morning, and couldn't connect to the Internet. I ran the Troubleshooting option, and receved the Problem "Local Area Connection #" doesn't have a valid IP configuration. My Network Map shows that I don't have a connection to the Laptop. It goes 'Desktop -- ! on yellow triangle --Unidentified network -- X --Internet (Globe above internet is Gray). I didnt update anything on either comp before shutting them down last night. I haven't tried anything besides running the Troubleshoot/Repair tool on the laptop and the desktop. Is this just a bad Ethernet Cable, or something that got changed on one of the comps? If I missed any information, I'll do my best to get anything thats needed to help. Thanks in advance.

What is the model of your laptop? I suggest you download the latest driver for the network adapter from the laptop manufacturer’s website. Then install the driver and see if the issue is resolved. If it does not help, please temporary disable your antivirus and firewall. If the issue still occurs, I suggest you contact your ISP and ask if there DHCP server has any issues with Windows 7.Arthur Xie - MSFT
