Local Access Only using Wireless Connection on Vista Home Premium
Lots of posts on this I see but no straight answer. I really believe this is a bug in Vista. Here is what I've tried and what works. Don't even bother replying about ipconfig renews, driver updates or static IP's. Removed all AV software and reinstalled the network card drivers from scratch. Been there, done that.I can connect to my network fine via an Ethernet cable connection. All is well. However, wirelessly using an Intel 3945ABG card connecting to a Linksys Router with the latest firmware gives me Local Access Only. I am using WPA encryption which should be fine. I have another laptop running just fine. I can ping the Internet using an IP address such as 4.2.2.2. However no web browser works. I can resolve DNS names using nslookup. So its not DNS. I removed my antivirus software and Windows Defender. I tried a couple tweaks using NETSH with no luck. I connect to my wireless network without any trouble. I have disabled IPv6 on my wireless card.Any one have any ideas? Microsoft please chime in. This is your product and you need to post a fix. There are lots of people returning laptops and downgrading to XP because of this. Fix your damn product already.... I refuse to recommend Vista because of issues like this. XP lives on...

I am having the same problems. Just bought my Toshiba U305 two weeks ago and nothing but problems with wireless connection. Same Intel 3945ABG card. Seems to be an Intel/Vista issue but nobody seems to really be talking about what is going on. I plan on downgrading to XP and hope it works.

This helped me to get my connection working after I experienced similar issues. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928233

My expensive new Toshiba Notebook - Vista Home Premium equipped, connected to the wireless network, Lynxsis router for a short time, then went through endless loops of diagnose and repair. I tried everything to get it to work and then got advice to monkey with the dlls. This killed the notebook and it is now a worthless boat anchor. I think it would have been cheaper to buy a Macbook Air. I was able to find an old XP machine and bought it. When it dies, I'm headed for a Macbook.
