Live OneCare Firewall
I just updated to Vista home premium and bought Windows Live OneCare. The LiveOne firewall is set to auto. Do I need to turn off the Vista firewall under control panels also if using Live OneCare. The Vista control panel settings say my firewall settings are not correct, but everything looks fine in Live OneCare control panel. Thanks

If you have your Windows Vista firewall is turned on, it's better to turn it off if the OneCare firewall is on to avoid conflicts, if your Vista didn't recognize that you have another firewall running, just select I'll monitor firewall myself from security center. Thank you for your choice using Windows Live OneCare, I've been using it since July 2005. Good luck

Windows Live OneCare more advanced than Windows Vista Firewall once Windows Live OneCare is insalled. If it wasn't for Windows Live OneCare, then Windows Vista firewall is good selection without need to install 3rd party software. Good luck

when you install one care it configures the firewall for you so need to change anything. It will control all firewall services for you. Place onecare on you conputer and onecare manages the firewall

I just installed Vista Ultimate and trial of OneCare. I needed to disable OneCare firewall to get IIS to talk to outside world. I have a router and I don't think I really need the OneCare firewall. Windows FireWall is off (I think the install of OneCare did that). Is there a way in OneCare to configure IIS to allow access to the internet? Lloyd Sheen

are you hosting a web site on you Vista computer ? so you have addedIIS to yourVista Workstation. If you want user from the internet to connect to the web server you need to opern up port 80 on your router, and after IIS is installed in Vistaadjust the fire wall settings If you are using Vista standard fire wall - go toWindows firewall with advanced security In Onecareyou go to Change Onecare Settings - Firewall - advanced settings. In security the concept of layers of protection is key so having a hardware and a software firewall is a better practice.

OneCare not just firewall tool, it's PC tuneup, AntiVirus tool from Microsoft, If you're sure your hardware router firewall can block all not needed ports, never disable any software firewall because Windows would be harmed if you did that, there are thousands of virtual ports (non hardware ones) that are not monitored by the hardware firewall. Good luck

BASIC RULES of SECURITY Layers of security are good Less layers are BAD Turning off the Firewall compleatly in VISTA is not a good idea! Especially if you are inviting users into your home network (create firewall rules on vista that allow ONLY post 80 incoming) and keep the firewall on. Unless you have a Proxy firewall with state full inspections (like ISA) where you can inspect before connection come to the VISTA Computer you are asking for problems. D-link, Netgear, Linksys, HOME router do not fulfill this level of protection. Host of a Web server should be done on a server OS, but if you are going to use Vista Then all the protection you can get is recommended. As a Security Professional this is my Recommendation.

I have Vista Ultimate loaded and One Care, the One Care firewall completely blocks IE and Outlook. I was able to configure the Vista firewall for IE and Outlook, but not the One Care firewall. Right now I can only connect if I turn the One Care firewall off. I have used the advanced function in One Care to list IE and Outlook but they are still blocked by the One Care firewall. Any suggestions?

I also seem to have this problem. I have vista home premium, and with the onecare firewall active, I can't access outlook or IE7. As a temporary measure, I activated the windows firewall instead. On some occasions it does seem to allow IE for a while, but for no apparent reason, it will stop. I have compared the settings with another pc running vista RC1, and it works fine through the same router. What could be the problem?
