Live Messenger Freezes Windows 7
Hey All,I'vereinstalled Windows 7 &Windows Live Messenger 3 times in an effort to troubleshoot the issue. As soon as the app lunches Explorer locks. I can't Alt-Ctrl-Del, the mouse is frozen & I have to do a hard reset. Anyone else having this trouble? Thanks.

Yes, I had the same issues. The only option I found was to boot into safe mode and then run regedt32 to find the Run line and delete the registry key that starts it up upon boot. I think this is a known issue by others on these forums.

Hi all,I am currently still testing and installing Windows 7 BETA on several PCs and laptops.I've experienced the same problem as you all are.Install Windows 7 BETA by itself. No problem. As soon as you install Live Messenger, it freezes Windows 7 BETA completely. I had to reinstall Windows 7 BETA5 times from scratch just to make sure it wasn't the hardware or me or any other software. In all 3 instances, I had done:1.) a complete HDD wipe2.) Install just the Windows 7 BETA OS (no hardware drivers and just let Windows 7 BETA pick up the hardware with it's own driver)3.) Windows Update up to Feb 11 and reboot.4.) Install Live Messenger then freezes..In the other 2 instances:1.) A complete HDD wipe2.) Install the Windows 7 BETA3.) Installed the drivers for the hardware using Vista Drivers in Vista Compatbility mode (LAN, Modem, Video, and Camera)4.) Windows Update up to Feb 11 and reboot.5.) Install Live Messenger then freezes...The problem is with Live Messenger causing Windows 7 BETA to compeletly freeze.Windows 7 BETA works fine with the following for sure:1.) All Windows Update2.) Java 3.) WinRAR v3.84.) OpenOffice5.) Adobe Flash6.) Adobe Shockwave7.) Adobe Reader 9...and nothing else...Stuff that causes Windows 7 BETA to have BSOD so far in the initial tests:1.)Symantec Endpoint Protection (maybe... need to run more tests)2.) MS Office 2007 Pro & Ent (need to run few more tests)3.) Live Messenger (for sure, this will freeze the ____ out of Windows 7 BETA)As you can see, it wasVERY LABOROUS for me... SysAdmin

HiThere is no problem with live messenger. It is not possible software as office or messenger to cause BSOD if your system is OK!Anti-virus software can cause BSOD, but most possible reasons for BSOD are hardware problems or driver issues.Run RAM test to check for problems withRAM and update all drivers from windows update or with latest drivers available on corresponding manufacturer website if windows cannot find drivers for your hardware.Check event viewer for errors and warnings at time of crash

I'm able to use Live Messenger just fine... what version are you using ?I'm using Version 2009, Build 14.0.8064.206, and Windows 7 beta, 64-bit, build 7000Live messenger advertised an update, which I installed, when I powered up 2/21... I didn't happen to note the prior version of Live messengerDo you have a firewall active, and, if so, do you have any port blocking rules for TCP ports in the 49000 range, or UDP ports in the 64000 range ? Granted, the app "shouldn't" crash the OS if those ports are blocked, but that comes with the territory of beta testing. Additionally, have you checked device manager to see if Win7 is happy with all drivers used (when in normal mode, not safe mode...)Lastly, check the windows event logs to see if there are any causal entries...Jim
