Linking a LiveID kills network shares - How do I correct?
I have several PCs that are on the same network. I had no issues or problems with mapped network drives until I linked my Windows Live ID to the PCs I use. PC A is my server with file shares. PC B is a workstation that had mapped resources to A. This was working perfectly until I linked the ID to B and A. No when B boots up and I sign in, I get a message that the mapped drives cannot be restored. When I try to restore, I get "An Error Occured with Mapped Drive x \\resouces. Connection cannot be restored. THE PARAMETER IS INCORRECT." So, to correct it, I found that I delete the mapped drive, and recconnect, but if I use the username/password of the windows user accounts (that are identical on both machines) I get the error above. But if I click the check box, "User Deifferent Credentials" and then enter the username/password (that is the same), the connection is made and then all my other mapped drives work. Everything is then fine until I reboot and the issue starts all over again. How can I fix this? Yes, removing the linked ID from the accounts corrects it, but then I can't use the Windows Media Interent streaming of my Music library. :(

Bump: I am at the point that after every reboot, the parameter is incorrect when it try's to reconnect with the server pc. But If I disconnect one of the drives, remap it and choose "log on with different creditials"... and type in the same username/password. It remaps correctly and then I just have to click the other drives and they all work again. Until the next reboot. Is there anyway to reset a user account? Already tried system restore, already tried deleting and re-adding the user account. And the Live IDs have been removed.

Hi, Thanks for posting in Microsoft TechNet forums. As this has something to do with Windows Live ID on the web, I suspect there is a corrupted credential saved as cookies. I suggest reset IE to clear the temp file and check the result. Usually, click on Tools->Internet options->Advanced tab->Reset… Best Regards Magon Liu TechNet Subscriber Support in forum. This didnt help. I was able to get the sharing working again by removing the linking and adding the Group "USERS" to the permissions of the shares. Apparently, the specific user accounts I assigned permissions to these shares, that had the linked IDs, had this problem. Even after removing the linking the problem persisited until I added the USERS group to the permissions. So now I am granting access to ALL users accounts on the machine, but specifically denying access to the accounts I dont want access to the resouces. In short, the suggested answer did not have any impact and there is still an issue of this incorrect parameter when using linked IDs. Sorry for the delay in responding. Doing a lot of travel.
