Limited disk space on my windows drive .. how to make make more space by shifting certain folders to another drive
Hello there .. I am using windows xp professional. My windows partition is 12 gb but i do have other partitions with a bigger capacity. I have installed my windows on D:\WINDOWS of my hard drive ... even though my program files are in C:\Program Files and my temp is also in C:\Windows\Temp .... I still have been left with very limited space about 300 mb on my windows drive .. this is due to all the windows updates being installed over the years ... now the problem is if i want to move my D:\Documents and Settings folder to some other drive say from D:\Documents and Settings to E:\Documents and Settings how would i be able to do it i have searched the net and even your forums and i didnt get any answers to it hence in posting here ... & PLEASE DONT GIVE ME THIS LINK (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Strategies-for-freeing-disk-space) AS IT IS USELESS .. any help would be great .. waiting for a positive reply .. 1 person needs an answerI do too

Here are a few ways of freeing up disk space:1. If your PC is behaving properly you can remove the hidden Windows hotfix backup files that begin with $NTUninstallKB from the WINDOWS folder. Be aware that once they are removed you will not be able to uninstall the updates that they represent. There are two ways to do it:A. Manually, but copy the folders to a CD/DVD first to allow their restoration should a fix need to be later removed. Now delete them from the \WINDOWS folder but leave the orphaned Add or Remove Programs entries intact. Only delete the $NTUninstallKB folders that relate to fixes not those for applications like Word, WMP, etc. Also, DO NOT DELETE THE $hf_mig$ folder.B. My preference is to run a script which additionally removes the corresponding entries in Add or Remove Programs. Once they are removed by the script, they cannot be restored. Download, extract and run this little scripthttp://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_hotfix_backup.htm Create a system restore point first just in case anything goes wrong during the registry updating.2. Run Disk Cleanup to remove unwanted files. Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup.3. Reduce the space allocated to system restore, click Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore > Settings (in the left pane) > System Restore Tab > Settings and in the left pane move the slider to the left to reduce the space allocated.4. Reduce the space allocated to the Recycle Bin, right-click it > Properties and change the amount of space allocated.5. If you don't use Hibernation you can save yourself the equivalent in hard drive space as RAM you have installed by turning it off, i.e. right-click Desktop > Properties > Screen Saver Tab > Power at the bottom > Hibernate Tab and remove the tick from ‘Enable Hibernation’.6. Uninstall any programs that are no longer used. Also remove unwanted Windows components (in the left pane of Add or Remove Programs).
