Limited User acounts fail to print.
We have a printer is installed on our primary network computer running Win7, 2 other computers running WinXP3 will only print from administrator user accounts to the network printer. Attempts to print via limited user accounts and guest accounts on the network computers fail to print. Can anyone advise how to correct this?2 people need an answerI do too

K M JHA, I appreciate your answer. I also have an issue with printer permissions. I want to limit print permissions to a member of "User" group. When I add the user to the "Power User" group, can I deny all his additional permissions except the "manage printers" permission? Thank you.

When I add the user to the "Power User" group, can I deny all his additional permissions except the "manage printers" permission? Thank you. That earlier answer is just wrong. See, e.g., http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/print_limit_accessw.mspx?mfr=true ("When a printer is installed on a network, default printer permissions are assigned that allowall users to print ....)If you want to see which groups have permission to print,A. If you have Win XP Pro (use an account with administrative rights to do the following)First, ensure that Simple File Sharing is turned off (see below). Start > Printers and Faxes Right click on the printer and select Properties Select the Security tab. You will see who has what permissions for the printer. By default, the "Everyone" group has "Print" permission but not any of the other permissions associated with printing. If you want to add a group or an individual user, click the "Add" button. See the following for details: http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/print_limit_accessw.mspx?mfr=trueB. If you have Win XP HomeIf you are running Windows XP Home Edition, you must start the computer in safe mode, and then log on with an account that has administrative rights in order to access theSecurity tab. Access to theSecurity tab is required in order to change security permission.****************************************************What is your issue with printer permissions? If for some reason you want an ordinary user (member of "Users") to have "Manage printer" permission in addition to Print permission, just modify that user's permissions using the above steps rather than adding the user to the Power Users group.

I would like to inform you that in Windows XP operating system, only members of Administartos group and Power users group can print.I think this is incorrect. I have Win XP SP3 Home Edition, and the Limited User Account can print.

Use the built-in Administrator account, which becomes available in Safe Mode. The default password is blank (no password).I cannot get any printers to load in safe mode with any login credentials. For this reason, I cannot access any tabs for printers in safe mode. Do you know how to set permissions for printers for Win XP SP3 Home Edition?Thank you.

I forgot that the Print Spooler service doesn't run in Safe Mode. That's why the Printers and Faxes window is blank ... which means you can't get to the printer's Security tab that way.See http://www.dougknox.com/xp/tips/xp_home_sectab.htm Read the README files and the WARNING on the linked page.
