Limited IPV6 connectivity
I am having an increasingly annoying problem with my Internet connection. I am using a Siemens SpeedStream 4100 DSL modem with my brand-new Dell. I do not have a router. My internet connection keeps dropping off and saying I have a "local only" connection. Alternately, when I do have a connection, the LAN status tells me IPV4 has "Internet" connectivity and IPV6 has "Limited" connectivity. Lately, the norm for me is to have no Internet connection at all, with brief bouts of connectivity. I can't understand what it going on. Help!!! Thanks in advance...

That's not anything to worry about. All it means is that there is no IPv6 communication which isn't necessary anyways in your situation. You can disable IPv6 by adding this registry entry:HKLM>System>CurrentControlSet>Services>tcpip6>ParametersRight click and add new Dword32 and call it DisabledComponents and give it a value of 1Restart your computer and no more IPv6.

hello! I just bought a new acer laptop and am having the same problem. It worked the day I bought it but hasn't since, saying I have only limited ipv6 connectivity. It also says "identifying" when i hover over the network icon in the system tray. How do you add a registry entry? Any help would be fabulous! As long as it doesn't screw up my laptop. Thanks!

Hmmm I had the same problem with this. Only thing is i'm hooked up to a router so i found out that the ip addresses were actually conflicting with each other and i had to restart the network adapter over and over till it finally got an ip address that wasn't conflicting, so what i did was i manually assigned an IP address to the network adapter. I don't exactly know how it is with your set up but i don't necessarily have to disable IPv6 in order for my adapter to work, in fact that wasn't the problem at all because even when it was disabled i still had the connection problem at times. If you have a router my suggestion to you would be to try this solution. Go to your network adapter, right click, and choose properties, then highlight Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and choose properties. That's gonna take you to where you're gonna insert an IP address. Once you do that you have to manually insert an ip address. I don't know what yours might be but for me the router makes ip addresseses from 192.168.2.1 to 192.168.2.31 so what i did was just inserted a higher IP address like 192.168.2.8 because the router assigns the IP addresses to how ever many devices you have from 1-31.

I just had to personally thank you for your suggesting. I've been trying to seek help for months on setting up my own separate IP address. No matter where I looked it was so complicated I couldn't figure it out. My husband's laptop work computer and my personal laptop clash with each other the moment my husband walks in the door and I keep losing the internet for long periods of time as it seems that his work computer was taking presidence over mine. I've talked to tech people who said this is a common problems with two laptops in the house but they couldn't walk me through how to solve the problem unless I paid money which I can't afford. It's been frustrating since I run my own web site from which I sell items and as soon as my husband comes home I have so much difficulty trying to run my web site and process orders. Then on the weekends when he is home with his laptop just forget it and that's the period i sell most things. So thank you, thank you for such easy advice.

just buy a cat5 cable from a computer store and plug your laptop direct in to your wireless router , its not ideal but will solve your conflict problem

my ipv6 has always been Limited, i can still get on net with no trouble, As for the Local Only , This happened when i ran out of credit, Local means you can access the site of yor service provider, im with Vodafone, (i can access vodafone website). To turn off ipv6 click network and sharing center,>manage networks>right click on the network you use,>Properties..and in there u can turn it off, no registry stuff required..

Happens whether I am wireless or wired. This does this to me! I could be surfing the internet, then all of a sudden Mozzila just stops loading stuff and says stopped in the bottom left. It does the same with IE and Google Chrome. However, My Windows live messanger + uTorrent still work fine :S I've only just been reading guides recently. I have disabled my IPv6 hoping it should work. If i have success ill come back on and post later :)

I believe that my problem was caused by my firewall which in some time i denied a VITAL security service or something, possibly something to do with svhost or on the lines of this. Well this is what i did. Also another thing i beleived it did was, every time my IP address renewed, it blocked it. 1: I Uninstalled my OLD FIREWALL, this being ZoneAlarm. 2: Then i installed a new firewall named Commodo, this is also a free good firewall which is currently working out brilliant. After doing this, my internet restored back to full health. Internet didnt stop after 5-10 minutes and IPV6 connectivity was fine! I've never had any problems since. I Really hope this will resolve some peoples problems, i never found a guide for this before after searching for hours on end.
