Limited Connectivity with Wireless Access Point in Vista
Alright, I've been messing with this problem all weekend and I'm out of ideas. Any and all suggestions would be most appreciated.I have recently bought a new computer that came with Vista installed. I've been installing all my old USB attachments so I can get everything up and running, but I've hit a road block with my wireless access point.It is not a brand name AP, just one I bought off of Ebay from Hong Kong, but it worked very well on XP. It comes with the ZDwlan utility for managing the network, which worked fine on XP.My first problem was getting the program and the right driver installed in Vista. I was able to do this with help from other sites around the web. But no one has covered what I need to do now that the hardware is working in order to get Vista to recognize the connection!I can use the ZDwlan utility to set up the access point and windows detects that there is a wireless connection, but it is not identifying the SSID. It just shows "unidentified connection" No Default Gateway or DNS servers are listed under Details in Network and Sharing for t he wireless. I turned off Vista's wireless configuration system because it was blocking the ZDwlan program.All I want to do is get Vista to recognize the wireless connection I'm trying to set up and share the internet from my cable modem connected to the computer via USB with the wireless device/program so I can connect my game consoles, etc over wireless. My Nintendo DS can see the network, but it fails to obtain an IP address from the wireless signal. Any ideas/thoughts on how I can make that happen? Thanks in advance!Wireless LAN adapter Woot:Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :IPv6 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 2002:458c:1fc0:c:edd5:a6e1e72:21cfSite-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fec0::c:edd5:a6e1e72:21cf%2Temporary IPv6 Address. . . . . . : 2002:458c:1fc0:c:c5ba:a947:6119:30d6Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fe80::edd5:a6e1e72:21cf%12Autoconfiguration IPv4 Address. . : 169.254.33.207Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.0.0Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :Ethernet adapter Internet:Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : hsd1.md.comcast.net.Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fe80::c07c:623f:3966:c837%10IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 69.140.31.192Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 69.140.31.1Tunnel adapter Local Area Connection* 7:Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : hsd1.md.comcast.net.Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fe80::200:5efe:69.140.31.192%19Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :Tunnel adapter Local Area Connection* 12:Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :IPv6 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 2001:0:4137:9e50:ca0:1080:ba73:e03fLink-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fe80::ca0:1080:ba73:e03f%9Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :Tunnel adapter Local Area Connection* 9:Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fe80::5efe:169.254.33.207%18Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :Tunnel adapter Local Area Connection* 10:Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : hsd1.md.comcast.net.Temporary IPv6 Address. . . . . . : 2002:458c:1fc0::458c:1fc0Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 2002:c058:6301::c058:6301Thanks again!

Hi Admiral Moo, From your post, I understand: 1. The Windows Vista computer is connected to the Internet via the Ethernet adapter (69.140.31.192). 2. The Windows Vista computer is connected to other local network device (game consoles) via the Wireless adapter. 3. You would like to share the Internet connection by using the Windows Vista computer. If there is anything I have misunderstood, please let me know. To share the Internet connection, you can enable ICS on the Windows Vista computer. Ive included the following article for your reference: Using ICS (Internet Connection Sharing)http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/Help/bfd3bd31-82f0-4b9c-9cde-fb92bc2b14771033.mspx Actually, to reduce the complexity and improve the network performance, I suggest using a wireless Router in this environment to share the Internet connection. For example:LAN (including the Windows Vista computer, game consoles) ---- Wireless Router ---- Cable Modem ----- Internet Hope it helps.
