Licensing question
I just spent a few days discussing various licensing options with local MS office. What I was looking for was a subscription based licencing with perpetual licences. So we talked about the three options that one might have at the moment:1. Buy SW as you go in a store2. Buy MSDN subscription3. Join the partner programOption #1 is quite obvious:You need a piece of SW, you buy it, you use it indefinitely. You need a new version, you buy that.Option #2 seems very interesting (but with a catch)You get the subscription, you get to use all the software that this subscription gives youGreat, but for two minor problems:1. The packages are typically too big and therefore too expensive for the home enthusiast. For example: you get all the OS flavors, but only need the desktop OS2. The license itself does not permit "production" usage which is of course not acceptable for home user. Even the premium licenses only permit office applications (not all of them) to be used for production purposes2.1. The license also only allows ONE person (the subscriber) to use the softwareOption #3: (getting close)I only have second hand knowledge about the partner program, but it seems the packages are more suited to home user, containing less software and also costing lessI'm not sure about production / testing license limitations, but from what I understand, the limitations aren't as strict as in MSDN.What I'd like was Option #4:I'm a home user, so production use is a must in the licenseI need a flexible package where I can choose what products I will use (and how many licenses of each)I need good pricing since I'm not really making any money out of thisI need SW access similar to MSDN (old versions, current versions, beta versions, ISOs freely downloadable, serials managed by MS)So I'm willing to pay the initial price + 20 - 25% annually for such a packageWhat must a man do to get his wife off his back and still have the latest SW versions readily available to him? }:-))Thoughts?
