Can I transfer my win 7 license from my old desk top to my lap top?

Hi, If you are using OEM License, you may not be able to transfer your license from old computer to new computer. If you are using retail version Windows 7, you may have the right to install the OS to your new PC once you've uninstall Windows 7 on your old computer. In some cases, you may need to activate your Windows 7 via phone. Best Regards.Nova C. Altesse, BBA, MCTS

But if it's an OEM license (for example if Windows 7 came preinstalled on the desktop), no, you can not. the biggest disadvantage of an OEM copy is that its license is permanently attached to the first computer it's installed on. It may never be moved to another. Ken Blake, Microsoft MVP

I did a transfer of activation when I did a full backup restore to a replacement system (the original system was gone). The automated telephone activation system asked me how many prior systems this copy of Windows had been activated on, then facilitated activation. -Noel
