Library Problem
I have an elderly customer who has made rather a mess of the Windows 7 Libraries. I have reset them to defaults and removed the remaining locations she had added by accident (somehow she had managed to add some additional locations to the defaults as well) but two problems remain: 1. When the customer goes in to the Pictures Library it is showing a view that does not relect the contents of the included locations, i.e. it seems to have remembered a previous view. 2. When you go in to a library you normally see a bar with the library name in green right-aligned and other options (such as Include: and Arrange By:) but this bar has disappeared completely from all the libraries. I have tried resetting the libraries to defaults, deleting them and then recreating them and I have run sfc /scannow but haven't been able to resolve this. Can anyone help?

It's a pain(of course it does not sound like this is a domain account so it might not be too bad. Just need to get the data from old profile to new) but I would recreate her profile and start from scratch. Either log in as admin and rename her current profile to .old - then reboot and have her login to create a new profile. Then move pictures/files/favorties to the new profile. OR Move the files to a CD and just go through the user management area and delete her profile. OR Since it is a home user it sounds like just create a new account (#2 or something) and once the user is in move the files. BUT - do not copy the enitre folder just files and favs and whatnot or you might copy whatever setting was changed in her old profile to the new one. Hope this helps Rich

Please follow this link they seem to have few intresting suggestions. http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_vista-sound/reset-library-in-windows-media-center-on-vista/22230f61-68d0-488f-8455-e473f1229643 Click Start -> click All Programs -> click Accessories -> click Run, type the following in the Open filed: Collapse this imageExpand this image%LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\ Medial Player Click OK. Select and delete the files in this folder. Open Windows Media Player to initiate a rescan of your library. Follow the previously outlined steps to further customize your library.

Thanks Rich, I know this is an apption but would rather try and have her work round it than recreate the profile or another user account. However, it may come to that!

Thanks for replying Brano, I probably didn't make it very clear but I'm referring to the Windows 7 Documents and Pictures libraries.

Hi, I suggest testing the issue in Safe Mode. Meanwhile, please click Organize -> Layout -> Library pane to show other options (such as Include: and Arrange By:) Meanwhile, creating a new user account is a method to verify the corrupted user profile. You could do it for testing. Thanks for replying Brano, I probably didn't make it very clear but I'm referring to the Windows 7 Documents and Pictures libraries. Same steps work on Windows 7. This is windows 7 forum so i did assume that you are running windows 7. So if you delete the files from that folder you should be able to rebuild the library

Brano, This rebuilds the Windows Media Player library, the data for Windows 7 libraries is at C:\Users\(User-Name)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Libraries. This article shows how to restore the default libraries in Windows 7 http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/581-libraries-restore-default.html

Niki and Rich, I'm going to mark your responses as the answer as I don't doubt that creating a new user account would resolve this but I've asked the customer and she isn't happy for me to do so at the moment. Thanks Nikki, I am going to give her some tuition in a few days time so I will boot into Safe Mode and see if the problem exists and will show the Library pane.

Good to hear and sad to hear she does not want you to fix the issue. But if it a minor issue then maybe it could be a bit of overkill to recreate the profile.
