Laptop wakeup bug
This topic is related to http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itprohardware/thread/1196c941-33b4-4a78-a4a1-325fe84b6b6b I am using HP Pavilion dv7-3135eo with windows 7. And what happens is that when I play "X3 terran conflict 3.1" with mod "X-tended" and set it to pause, put the laptop to sleep and then wake up, the screen stays black and the harddisk seems to load something indefinitely, so you have to hold power button down to reboot. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Since I bought this laptop last year there have been very few problems: There was a graphic driver update which neither windows update nor hp update that are automatically would report. You had to do it manually. but after that this laptop have played all new games well and with the highest graphic settings. I use CCleaner + an external HD for system backup + only windows defender. I do not like other virus scanning programs that tend to run in backup and use up harddisk usage which I need when playing games, so that's why I keep a complete system image backup. I have noticed when windows update had installed I think it was silverlight stuff or windows live stuff, that CCleaner would report lots of bad references in registry. Lately I was getting bored so I guess it was time to clean up the pc a little. In CCleaner you can see a list of installed programs, and it's annoying to see that Microsoft Visual C++ redistributables takes up 1/3 of that list. Because fx. if you install other major programs like corel, then the installer have a menu list where you can click select/unselect instead of filling up your windows installed programs list. I had also tried to install Studio Express C++ 2010 for fun to edit an older game. And it didn't succeed because the older game was written in Visual Studio 2005. And then I noticed alot of new "SQL server installed programs" in the list which all could be installed with a single click, but had to be uninstalled singlely. To clean up the programs installed list of what I thought really wasn't nessecary I got rid of the sql server stuff (you can always develop flat file db I think) and the silverlight and net framework (really don't know what it is) and a whole list of voice synthesizer programs and some browser enhancement stuff which neither was in the list to begin with. And everything seem to work alright. (Else I got my system image backup) Later I installed the X3 terran conflict game, which obviously does something that keep the laptop from waking up.

Hi, Before going further, I would like to say it is not recommend to use CCleaner to clean the registry. It will cause the damage and crash. The .NET Framework is: 1. Common Language Runtime – provides an abstraction layer over the operating system 2. Base Class Libraries – pre-built code for common low-level programming tasks 3. Development frameworks and technologies – reusable, customizable solutions for larger programming tasks Silverlight is a powerful development platform for creating engaging, interactive user experiences for Web, desktop, and mobile applications when online or offline. In a words, many applications and websites depend on .NET Framework and Silverlight. .NET Framework 3.5 is a built-in feature in Windows 7. Regarding the issue, I would like to verify if the issue only occurs when running X3 terran? If so, it could be the cause. I cannot find it in compatibility center, make sure it is compatible with Windows 7. You could run it with compatibility mode. Right click the game -> properties -> compatibility tab -> Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows Vista (SP2), check the Privilege Level as well. In addition, I suggest using the graphic card driver from HP site as well as other devices. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=4062&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=4126494 Note: Since the website is not hosted by Microsoft, the link may change without notice. Thanks for your reply. I experienced once again that it would not wake up from sleep also without running game "X3". So I guess it has something to do with the .NET framework. It is just because I was bored and downloaded Visual Studio Express and then when I was too lazy to get into programming again and wanted to uninstall it, I guess I over-uninstalled. And any way all those SQL programs wasn't suppose to be there also. It seems like the error has gone after that I reinstalled .NET framework. But I refuse to have silverlight, because it has access to webcam - like flash. And I think that skilled programmers will be able to use your webcam and photograph you without permission. Some security programs offer that through java so if you report your laptop stolen, they will email you a picture of the thief. If they really wanted more security I would prefer that when you buy your laptop, that the seller would print out a license plate that is then secured to the bottom of your laptop and that new laptops wouldn't be sold without. Because it is common that drug addicted people steal laptops in puplic transports places just to get their next shot. But registered laptops would be more difficult to sell. About CCleaner: I have noticed that when I have tried a new game and then uninstalled it, CCleaner often come up with some invalid links to the game that now is gone. So I don't understand why windows haven't incorporated this? Also in CCleaner I can select/deselect whether to keep browser cache etc. The only thing I haven't tried with CCleaner is "drive cleaninng", cause I think that windows is completely capable of that. And since I bought this laptop I haven't had other problems than mentioned above. So I think it is good. Perhaps I should also say: that I once bought such a security program from https://secure1.mysecuritycenter.com/gb/en/msc/eshop/home But then I thought since it only works after that your laptop has been stolen, it wasn't the best thing. And then it had a "Virus Icon" because when you clicked this icon it linked to their website and you could not remove it. So I reported this to HP here: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-systems-and/Virus-icon/m-p/352262/highlight/true#M47673 And I found out, that the only way to get rid of this virus was to uninstall JAVA, which secretly gave the program access to webcam and kept on displaying that icon link in "Quick launch" bar. And I thought since flash and silverlight have same access I don't want them.

Hi, I am glad to hear the issue is resolved. Thanks for sharing the experience you used the computer. Choose what you want and delete what you don't need. Hope you enjoy Windows 7.
