Laptop Screen Not Turning Off When Lid Closed
On my Dell Inspiron E1505, I have Windows 7 RC (Build 7100). Whenever I close the lid to my laptop, the screen stays on. How can I get it to turn off the displaywhen I close the lid without it sleeping/hibernating?

Karate, To do this, select Power Options from the Control Panel, then click on "Choose when to turn off the display" in the left-hand panel. From here, click on the link that says "Change advanced power settings." The setting should be in the resultant menu under "Power buttons and lid."-Alex

The only choices are hibernate, sleep, or shut down

In that case, I'm afraid you may be out of luck for the time being, given your particular notebook. You could try installing a separate Dell power management app that was designed for Windows Vista, and with luck it may contain this option, but otherwise you'll have to wait for updated drivers.-Alex

What are the current display drivers you are using for this laptop? Have you tried using the default WDDM driver that comes with Windows 7?

I Had problems with the E1505 doing that with XP but it turns out its related to the Video card driver, Updating to the latest one they had for xp fixed the problem, Don't try to talk to Dell it took me more the half a day to explain to support that this was not a hibernation, sleep issue and several of them had the same problem with theirs and didn't' even know it. They even replace the lower panel thinking that is was the magnet switch.I Would try the vista driver for your card from dell. you may have to uninstall the WDDM drivers first.
