Laptop PC locks up
I"ve installed Windows 7 on a Dell Inspiron 600m laptop. After running a little while, the machine locks up. The mouse cursor won't move andthe keyboard no longer works. The only way to clear itis to shut the machine down and restart. The machine was working fine with Vista Premium before. I'd be happy to submit any information useful in solving this issue for the final release. Anyone else had a similar problem.

I've had the same problem a number of times. I've figured out a number of things that I need to avoid in order to prevent my laptop from locking up. Here is the list:* Running Windows Live Messenger (I can install it, but not run it)* Playing a video in Windows Media Player (I can play audio fine)* Changing to full screen mode in any flash movie player (e.g. Youtube)I also have Windows 7 installed on my desktop and I don't have any of the above problems on it. My laptop only has integrated Intel graphics (Intel 915GM) so I can't really complain I guess. I did file reports for each of the above problems though. You should probably try out some different things and see what locks up your machine :)

Dear Ronk,do you got any hibernation, sleep mode or screen saver active ? Does the systems come during you are working with the laptop or when its idle???

The problem seems to happen even when I'm using the machine. It seems to be more time related than event related. I'm working on it and it just freezes up.

Hi RonK, Does the issue occur in Safe Mode? If not, the issue mostly can be caused by a driver or a software conflict. I suggest you take a Clean Boot to narrow down the problem. For your convenience: Clean Boot =========================== 1. Click Start, type MSCONFIG in the Search Bar and Press Enter to start the System Configuration Utility. 2. Click the Services tab, check the Hide All Microsoft Services box and click Disable All (if it is not gray). 3. Click the Startup tab, click Disable All and click OK. 4. Restart the computer and test the issue. Please monitor the system in the Clean Boot environment. If the problem does not occur, it indicates that the problem is related to one application or service we have disabled. You may use the MSCONFIG tool again to re-enable the disabled item one by one to narrow down the problem. Hope it helps.
