Lan driver corrupted at every restart
Hi everybody, I'm experiencing problems with the lan drivers: every time I restart the laptop I can't enter the internet, so that I have to go to the device manager, uninstall the SiS191 ethernet controller, and scan for hardware changes.... the system then recognise the lan and I can navigate again...why the drivers keeps corrupting at every restart?notes on the laptop:asus pro50SL (motherboard of the f5sl by factory) with intel t5550 running windows 7 RC

Most notebooks will require some devicedrivers from the manufacturer. This Vista drivers seem to work. I found this version of a 32-bit Vista driver for the lan VersionV2.0.1039.1620 .So, try uninstalling the ethernet controller again-close out and install the driver from Asus support for 32 or 64-bit. Your computer will run 64-bit OS. You'll like it.

I meant to suggest that you could run Win 7 RC 64-bit on your laptop. One always needs to use the correct driver version for the OS installed 32 for 32...64 for 64..no mixing. Since this is the RC, I thought you might like to try the 64-bit version.Did Win 7 RC install compatible drivers when you installed the OS? Did the controller show as not working in device manager after the initial installation?

Ah, That's OK, OK, I have installed the correct drivers (32 bit on Winb7 32-bit RC) and, well, after the initial installation the device manager shows that everything works fine, and actually it does, infact the problem is at the reboot, when it fails; but if I go to the device manager the controller is shown as perfectly working... while it's impossible to connect. if I try to use the check connection tool, it only diagnose me that there is a problem, but that it can't figure out what is it...I don't use the 64-bit version because there are so many programs that I use that will not work properly in 64 mode... when allsoftware distributors will stop making good software for 32-bit platforms, everyone will pass at 64-bit windows, like it wasfor the passage from 16 to 32 bitswith the advent of the glorious win98 (the best windows ever... so customizable.... soooo gooood...)

When the computer is booted and the device is active do this:Start>Control Panel>Network and Internet>Network and Sharing Center... what does the network map display?...then try the Connect to a network tool below and try to setup the connection. What happens?Let me know the results. Some other questions:Did you perform a clean install of Win 7 RC?Are you using build 7100 from Microsoft?Your responses will lead us to the next step to figure this out.

the win7 is build 7100 from microsoftitis a clean install, dual booting with xp sp3I've tried what you said:- when the computer is freshly booted, whit network not connecting, the network map displays: this computer -- multiple networks -- internet (in full map "this computer - gateway - internet", but shows in the line under that the router can not be placed in the map... - when I try to use the connect to a network tool, pops up from the taskbar the message "currently connected to: -network(internet access) -unidentified network(internet access)"I have discovered yesterday that I don't need to uninstall and reinstall every time: now I only disable and re-enable the network controller...- when everything is working fine, the network map displays: this computer -- network --internet (in full map "this computer - gateway - internet", but now there's nothing thatcan't be placed in the map)any suggestion?regards V.

I have been away. Sorry for the delay. Is the network connection issue on reboot resolved?Have you found drivers that are compatible and keep the device functioning?
June 10th, 2009 1:29pm

no... nothing new... in seems like windows on every reboot dismounts the device, but doesen't have the routine to check at the restart if it is mounted and working or not... any suggestion?

Hello Recatantaro,Have you tried running any older driver versions in compatibility mode? -ScottThere are also several newer driver versions than the one mentioned above at SiS's website.

Try installing an older driver in compatibility mode. Does it work that way?

tryed the compatibility mode... nothing changes, the same problem. on next reboot I'll tryif the last driver installation works fine... I had the 2.0.1039.1650, now I'll try the 2.0.1039.1670 version (only 2 months later...)

nothing to do even with the newest driver... still having the problem.for me is not a problem with the driver compatibility, but a windows problem about loading that driver... seems like the OS had lost the instructions about loading that driver (it detect correclty the device, but doesen't mount correctly the network protocols- maybe.... I relly dont know, just guessing)

Hi just wondering did you solve this problem because im having the same thin every time i reboot i have to roll back the driver or uninstall and reinstall

nope... absolutely no solutions....I only found a way to make faster the process:putting a copy of Local Area Connection on the desktop, at every log-on simply right click on the icon, click "Disable", wait 2 or 3 seconds and then re-rightclick on the icon and click "Enable".... after this your lan will properly work.I hope someone will find a solution, cause this is really annoying....

Recatantaro,Have you installed or tried the wireless console utility? Perhaps that separates the ethernet from the wireless. Have you tried the driver sgl207 form SiS? here. It's a logo'd driver, passed Microsoft certs. It's worth a try.
