Lan Network stopped working in Windows 7
My internet connection was working fine until last weekend, without having tried any new installation, or update it just stopped working. I'm using an Asus Eee pc running windows 7. I don't use a wireless connection, but a simple Lan one, using the router provided by my ISP to connect to the internet. I have tried using my laptop in other locations and it works fine, and I tried using another laptop at home to see if the problem was specifically with my computer but the same thing happened, the other laptop was also running in windows 7. My ISP says there's nothing wrong with the router, they have checked it, and it works for them on a Vista pc. The guy said that the problem was that the computer only saw the connection as a public network, and he tried for more than an 1.5 hours to fix it and he couldn't change it into a home/work network, thus the lack of connectivity. (And obviously the IT technician I consulted couldn't fix it either, as the computer seems to run fine in any other location, it just won't work at home) Any ideas on how to solve this? Has anybody else had a similar problem?

Hi, Here are some suggestions you can try: 1. Bypass the router and connect to the DSL modem directly for a test. Can you access Internet now on the machine? 2. Upgrade the router’s firmware or borrow another brand of router to check the result. 3. Temporarily turn off firewall on the machine when connecting Internet at home. What’s the result? Thanks, Novak

The server is stand alone in the same workgroup with the other PCs. Anyway that seems to be a problem of windows 7 home since ultimate and professional edition connect properly to win 2000 share using the same user and password which that I am using with win7 home ed. I guess that the windows 7 pc does not send the proper authentication info to the remote pc. The solution: Registry editing for LAN manager authentication level (in Home edition this can be configured through registry) How to do it: 1 . Open registry editor ( Start search - regedit) 2 . Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa 3. Create a new DWORD value with the following properties: NAME: LmCompatibilityLevel VALUE: 1 4. Restart your PC and try the connection again... This doesn't work for me. I am also using Windows 7 Home Edition (upgraded from Vista) and I have no problems connecting to the internet wirelessly, but have problems communicating with the Primary DNS Server (according to diagnostics) when I am plugged in via LAN. I don't know what the problem is, but it's driving me nuts, and yes, I have tried installing the "latest drivers"
