Lan Games on Vista
I've done a lot of searching on Google in attempt to find an answer to this problem. Some friends and I are trying to set up a LAN party playing various older games like Rainbow Six and CS: Source. The problem we encounter is that Vista machines won't find the game servers. With CS: Source, this isn't a big issue, we can just enter the host IP and connect. With Rainbow Six we aren't allowed to connect to LAN games by IP.I have looked all over for information on this problem. The most I could gather is that Vista blocks incoming (broadcasts?) that XP does not. A game hosted on XP/Vista can be seen by XP but not by Vista.Does anyone know what setting blocks this kind of traffic? How it can't be turned off? Thanks in advance.

We had the same problem at home. Vista is not like XP. It has a 2 way firewall so what happens is that the requests get blocked. We turned off the firewall and everything worked. If you are behind a NAT there is no security risk. I advise a good AV package as well. HTH

I had the same problem. Tried everything i've found on a lot of forums (disabling ipv6, firewall, quad cores, etc. etc.). Finally, i solved the problems updating the onboard ethernet drivers (I had an ASUS board with atheros chipset and windows vista x64) - from the atheros page... Now civ 4 and other games work perfectly!
