LOG ON PASSWORD EXPIRING SOON
MY OEM XP PRO SAYS MY LOGON PASSWORD IS EXPIRING IN 12 DAYS. I OPTED TO CHANGE IT BUT IT SAID EITHER THE "OWNER" OR PASSWORD WAS WRONG. I HAD WRITTEN THE PW DOWN AND PRETTY SURE IT IS OK. I WOULD LIKE TO GET RID OF THE NECESSITY OF A LOG ON PW IF POSSIBLE. HOW CAN I DO THAT? MANY THANKS FOR A LESS THAN 12 DAY REPLY.1 person needs an answerI do too

"Owner" probably refers to your own user account, not the built-in Administrator. Do Ctrl-Alt-Del at the Welcome Screen to get the classic logon box. Type "Administrator" as the user (without the quotes) and supply whatever password you assigned when you set up Windows. If you didn't assign a password, leave this blank. Then log into this built-in Administrator and make your changes from there. To remove the password expiration requirement, Start>Run>type: lusermgr.msc [OK]. Click on Users and find your user account ("Owner"). Right-click it to get its Properties and on the General tab put a checkmark in the box next to "Password never expires". Do this for all user accounts on the system. If you have XP Pro or Media Center and were using the built-in Administrator account for your regular work and it is therefore the only user account on the system (or you assigned a password to the built-in Administrator but have forgotten it), there are ways to change the password for that account to a blank. Microsoft doesn't permit us to tell you how in these forums. Their house, their rules. Use Google or ask a local computer tech (not a BigComputerStore/GeekSquad type of place).MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!
