LMGRD encountered a problem and has to close
Hi,I have a Lenovo ThinkCentre with Windows XP Pro at the minute but it has been really slow and not performing well. One of the problems is everytime I boot it gives me the message, "LMGRD encountered a problem and has to close". What is LMGRD and how do I stop this error? Cheers,Dave

Hi Dave, LMGRD refers to License Manager Daemon. If you’ve this program running, then you can disable it from the startup. I would suggest you to try the steps mentioned below to figure out what is causing the issue. Perform a clean boot When you start MicrosoftWindows, typically there are several programs that start automatically and run in the background. When you perform a clean boot procedure, you prevent these programs from starting automatically and thereby you can figure out which program is causing this error. Visit the link below to know how to perform a clean boot.http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353 Hope this information is helpful and let me know if you need any further assistance.Mouneshwar R – Microsoft Support-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Visit our Microsoft Answers Feedback Forum and let us know what you thinkNote: Once the troubleshooting is done, reset the computer to start as usual.

Thanks for your reply Mouneshwar. I tried a clean boot using instructions from this link, http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb%3Ben-us%3B310353, because I'm using Windows XP but i'm still getting the same problem when I boot it again normally. Hi Dave, Do you by any chance have Macrovision FLEXIm software or ArcGIS software installed on your computer? The above mentioned software’s are also responsible for this process to start at the startup. I would suggest you to try the steps mentioned below. Steps to remove lmgrd.exe processa. Press "Ctrl," "Alt" and "Delete" together to open the Task Manager. Click the "Processes" tab.b. Locate the "lmgrd.exe" process and click it. Click "End Process." If it is not a currently running process, move to the next step.c. Click the Windows "Start" button and click "Run." Type %ProgramFiles% (with the percentage signs) and press "Enter" to open the Program Files window.d. Double-click "ESRI" and double-click "License." Double-click "arcgis9x" and delete the "lmgrd.exe" file.e. Click the Windows "Start" button and click "Run." Type "services.msc" (without quotes) and press "Enter" to open the Services window.f. Scroll through the right panel and double-click "ArcGIS License Manager." Select "Disabled" on the Startup type window and click "OK." Close the Services window and restart your computer. Hope this information is helpful and let me know if you need any further assistance.Mouneshwar R – Microsoft Support-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Visit our Microsoft Answers Feedback Forum and let us know what you think

Hi Mouneshwar, Thanks again for your reply. I have ended the lmgrd process in the Processes tab but it always returns when I start up my computer again and so I get the error message. I also tried deleting the lmgrd.exe file but it was not in the Licence file when I checked and I could not find ArcGIS License Manager in the Services window to disable, even though I do have ArcGIS installed on my computer. Do you have any other advice,Dave

Hi Dave, I would suggest you to uninstall ArcGIS from your computer completely and then check if the issue still persists.Note: Perform this operation only if you’ve a backup copy of ArcGIS so that you can re-install it later.
