Hello, i cant solve this problem, i have 3 Computers at my house we use to have windows XP but recently we change to windows 7, 2 of the computers have windows 7 x86 and 1 has windows 7 x64, the problem is that we are having problem with LAN (to play games and stafff) some times you can see 2 computers but 1 is missing another times the 1 is missing shows up and another one doesnt show so i made everything i know; disable all firewall, disable all antivirus, made and remade homegroup, disable ipv6 and activated again, all automatics solutions from LAN wich windows 7 has. this problem is making me crazy i never had this with windows XP!!!! :( here i left out a copy of ipconfig. Buy a router. ;) That ipconfig dump (thanks for that, by the way!) tells me that your computer isn't on a LAN - rather, it's directly connected to the internet.I'll hazard a guess that you have a simple switch connected to an ISP-supplied modem. Therein lies your problem - your PCs are trying to resolve local names against the internet (which they can't do), rather than each other (what they should be doing.)Get a router. I would venture to say that the modem has a built-in router providing several IP addresses. In this case the best thing to do is to specify the ip address of the host pc to the client pc. If the games do not allow for an ip address then the next thing to do would be to setup a vpn

Please post your ipconfig /all data from all 3 machines and are you using Homegroup for your LAN configuration because with all Windows 7 machines and your configuration you've shown that would be a good way to set it up. Here's a FAQ about homegroup network http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/HomeGroup-frequently-asked-questions which is where you can start at. Also turn on Network Discovery along with enabling File and Print Sharing. You've got to have IPv6 enabled for homegroup. Do you have any 3rd party securty suites/firewalls installed and if so, did you disable Windows 7 firewall to prevent conflicts. Some firewall software has to be completely uninstalled to prevent problems as they'll continue to provide firewall restrictions even when disabled. Some antivirus programs can also cause problems. Also turn off power saving on all network adapters on each machine, it will drive you nuts if you don't wondering why suddenly the adapter doesn't work when you think it should be working (doesn't detect activity very well) Which versions of Windows and which network locations can use HomeGroup? Computers must be running Windows 7 to participate in a homegroup. HomeGroup is available in all editions of Windows 7. In Windows 7 Starter and Windows 7 Home Basic, you can join a homegroup, but you can’t create one. HomeGroup only works on networks with the Home network location. To change a network location Open Network and Sharing Center by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Control Panel. Having public IP's makes it hard to network, plus the boxes will be a target for those wannbe hackers.He needs a router.

Frankly, I'm quite surprised that it 'worked' in XP. I've seen quite a few 'all-XP' "networks" that were set up exactly as yours is; all had the issues (such as name resolution failing) that you're currently having. Instaling a router (and, thereby creating a proper Local Area Network) fixes it. It'll fix yours, as well.@ crontab, and cdobbs:The OP's ipconfig tells that he's connecting multiple PCs directly to the internet; his post quoted here confirms it. No modem/router (the local IPs would be RFC1918-compliant private IP addresses if that were the case); And, I really don'y see the need for an ipconfig dump from the other two machines. It'll tell the same tale as does the first - machines are all connected directly to the internet.Bubbapcguy is right - public IP addresses on the machines makes it a PITA (at best!) to network them locally, and exposes them to the perils of the 'net. Attempting to enable local sharing (which, in this config, isn't 'local', but is really sharing with the entire internet, increases those perils to OMG levels.) Thank you guys for your concern and hospitality here, I have solve the problem with the Router, like this: _________3PC ¡ ¡ [InternetModem]-----------------------[Router]-------------[8ports switch]--¡------------1PC ¡ ¡_________2PC now i can see always my LAN with the 3 computers on it and share our files..... thank you.. if anyone is having the same problem this is the way to solve it...!!!
