LAN connection to an older computer...
i recently got a new laptop due to my last desktop being crashed by the conficker virus. my old desktop was cleaned of the virus but the internet connection didnt work the people told me (i was not informed of what method they tried to use). i dont have the system recovery disks and becuase it is so old i cant buy them either. when i plug my LAN cord in it connects to my laptop is fine but it says and i quote "the network did not assign a network adress to the computer." ive went to the manufactor websites but the help i was given was horrible (i refuse to pay those crazy high fees for customer service so i use the free ones provided). what do i do?1 person needs an answerI do too

Hi JStash, Using the System File Checker will repair and replace any missing or corrupt system files important for the system to run. To run the System File Checker, follow these steps: Click Start, click Run type sfc /scannow, and then press ENTER. Follow the prompts throughout the System File Checker process. Restart the computer when System File Checker process is complete. Let me know if this helps!
